I recently had AC go down in my office and despite 2yr old Dell computers I am being told that they dont have the capacity needed. Can anyone tell me for solo doc a good set up? Has anyone set up a new office recently or done new computers. In past we used a desktop as a main computer but would consider a server or designated computer as main. Please give recs for a good set up 1 doc 6 treatment rooms and growing daily.

What are specs on your 2 year old computers and who told you they were not good enough? I use windows xp with 1gb ram and they work....not sure what issue would be. I just bought hp all in ones with windows 7 pro, 4gb ram and 500 gb hard drive for 500 a piece and they make fine workstations. A basic Dell server with Foundation server and inexpensive workstations should do fine.

It's quite odd that this is happening now instead of 2 years ago. We're using 7-year-old workstations here. We're planning to upgrade these around black friday for some good savings. Our server is relatively new however. We just got it installed late April/Beginning of May. We need more information regarding the issue and what you want out of the server.

Also, you shouldn't use the computer on which your AC database is hosted. A dedicated computer for AC is recommended. Depending on your needs, we'll recommend an operating system.

Until V6 (which doesn't run on Win2K) I had AC running on a 466 MHz Pentium II with 512 of memory and an 8G hard drive. The primary reason for keeping this dinosaur alive was because it housed an old immunization program that comes in handy. IT RAN WELL.

Yes, Win2K has a lower footprint than XP which is less than Win7, but my point is that AC can run with fairly low requirements. That being said. I have found it runs faster on dual cores, but I have a number of Pentium 4 2.4 with 2 G memory (XP) and they run fine.

I have to question why they would say most computers from the last 5 years don't have the capacity.

I have just recently setup a new Dell server running W2k8 OS, added some terminal server licenses to accomidate all of the pc's in the office and user remote desktop connections to the server to log everyone in. 8gb of ram on the server with 2TB deisk space for lots of growth and scanning. Only have to apply updates to the server as that is the only place AC is installed. Woks quite well and is fast.

The problem is we don't know what the capacity is. You can have two year old Dells with 512MBs of RAM or 5 yo computers with 4GBs of RAM.

We also don't know your OS? If you have XP Home and are limited to five connections that could be why it is "going down." We don't know what "going down" means.

It's like a history. You have to give us a history and ROS for us to know what is up.

As far as a server, a Dell T310 should be all you need.

I have to admit though, these questions always kind of make me wonder. You are asking a group of users, all with different setups and networks and servers to suggest what is best for you.
It is almost like my coming on here and asking everyone what car I should buy. What color do you like? Do you like a fuel efficient car or not? Do you want a foreign car or American made.

These are the minimal requirements as AC states them. Notice there are no Home versions mentioned. Only Pro.
