I'm running AC on a Windows 2008 server I wanted to send out remote apps since it's easier than to go to 50 WS each time there is an update out but when I run the app on the WS AC comes back like it wants to install but then states that meds.mdf is running and it stops the install. Has anyone had any luck with this or even tried this it work with all the programs I have.

How are you deploying AC? Group policy or logon script? That error message is probably coming up because Amazing Charts is open on the client.

try uninstalling and installing again. I also run in remote app config for all our exam room thin clients we have. I had the same issue. Called tech support and they just uninstalled and installed again.

yep. We do some interesting things at the firewall to make it very hard to find; unless of course you know how to find it.

I assume what we are trying to do here is run Amazing Charts on a Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with the Remote Desktop Services role installed on it, correct?

Because the architecture that we used is now in production with our hosted AC servers, I won't lay it out in detail here, as that makes it easier for would-be bad actors.

For the Providers out there that have the interest and inclination, I am thinking about writing up a How-To that they can use on commodity equipment, and doesn't require a Cisco firewall and matching Cisco engineer.

The design approach comes from pouring over firewall logs, and knowing how most edge-attacks are mounted.

In the near term, I can give you the essentials, you'll just need to map those to what the capabilities are of your existing equipment.

If you are so inclined, just drop me a Private Message (PM), and I'll get back to you later this week. Right now I am a bit under the production gun, as we have several other instances to spin up.

Problem: 1306 error "Another application has exclusive access to the file..."

Cause: A file that is usually replaced during an upgrade or reinstallation is in use and is thus locked.

Solution: Be sure nobody else is using or connected to Amazing Charts. This includes being sure that Amazing Automator is not running. Rebooting the main computer will also disconnect any users or computers and usually solves this error, unless the Amazing Automator is running on the main computer, in which case it "reattaches" after rebooting - so you need to manually turn this off by right clicking on the Amazing Automator icon and selecting, "Exit."

I am confused. Why would that not be HIPAA compliant to begin with.

To not be compliant you'd have to do something like run it on the default port with the guest user enabled.

Although I will admit that the truth is sometimes stranger than you could imagine. We were called in after a penetration that got some attention in various parts of the world.

Turns out that a low-level network admin un-racked the wrong equipment, and then bypassed the firewall. Little wonder the network was found, thoroughly penetrated, and then the servers were re-tasked to run an entire segment of a bot-network.

Short form is that you can take a nominally secure platform, and make it mess.

About deployment - besides the obvious enterprise tools [and enterprise prices], there are now several MS and Open Source tools for automating deployment, patch management, upgrades.
