Today i was trying to install V6 on my test server and just setup things. I noticed that the db size is almost sitting at 900Mb ( just 1 year ago it was less than 200 MB). I know they have gone almost all paperless and three providers. But now I am wondering when will we hit the sqlserver express 2005 limit (4Gb).

Has anyone come close to 3GB?

Seems awfully large. You sure your backup folder isn't full of dozens of backups?

If this is the backup with imported items, it is not a concern.

I doubt it is Just the database, as mine for that is <100 Mb but with imports is 3 Gb

Jon,

I don't think the backup folder would add to the user database.

You are right, of course. I thought perhaps he was talking about the whole AC file, not just the backup. Even though that clearly is not what he said. confused

My .mdf files is 1GB and my .ldf file is 900Mbs. So, I don't think you are too far off. Solo practitioner, five years at this practice, three at another, but only the five count.

Imported Items 8GBs.

Solo practice using Amazing Charts for about 9 years. Have been scanning stuff in only about 1 or 2 years.
mdf is 519 MB
import items 400 MB
scanning at 150 dpi black and white, not scanning old paper charts.

Eventually, after version 7 gets out the door, Amazing Charts will need to consider a data deletion option for inactive charts. Personally I keep the whole paper chart 10 years past the date patient last seen face to face (however I realize some doctors, like Pediatricians need to keep stuff longer). This could be easily customizable and be done in the Amazing Utilities section (with all sorts of warnings and backups before anything actually deleted).

One more data point.
My wife and I (both primary care docs) have been seeing patients using AC for 3 years now. She was in solo practice for 5 years before that; we scanned the last 2 yrs worth of her active charts when she started electronically with AC and still scan a fair amount of new stuff.
Our .mdf file is 1.1 GB (2 docs, each working 4 days a week for 3 yrs)
.ldf file is 291 MB
Imported items is 4.5 GB

Mukesh,

Are these imported items? It would be difficult to get a .pdf in the database. We are adding Imported Items for interest, but the author is concerned about the size of the actual database.

Ok looks like many folks will be crosing the 1GGB limit soon and then with all this extra information I believe AC will be forced to offer a sql server version.

Or maybe they will do the mysql version

My ENC file which is the backup without imported items is 263 mb - my full backup including imported items is about 6 gb - I have been using AC for all my notes x almost 10 years full time and have imported many files x fully last 3 years and have went back and done hundreds of charts.

Wanted to chime in that our practice currently has .mdb of 3.6GB w/ imported items of 90GB. Very large practice - and we just switched to V6.

With MS SQL 2005 Express the limitations are 1 CPU, 1GB RAM, & 4GB Database. If I was at 3.6GB I would be really concerned.

@jboles99

I have no idea why I am offering this, because no one ever takes me up on it. Actually, out of the ten, two (with big problems) did talk with him and he easily fixed the problem.

I am lucky enough to know a SQL Expert (not just someone who talks SQL), somneone with Microsoft MVPs and SQL certificates in every version. The guy is good, and I am sure he could help. You are at the limit and need more space.

He will email back and forth for free and, if you need his help and he thinks he can do it, he will charge a nominal fee that he has worked out for AC users. I GET NOTHING. I JUST LIKE TO HELP. Let me know. It can't hurt to email him. Also, he is probably the nicest guy I have ever known. Very familiar with AC, too.
