I have been using e-script for the last few months . However I did not know how to report it to CMS. My undrestanding is It has to be aded to the claim with the G code.
I identified more than 25 medicare patients that I have used e-prescription for them. Can I go back and send a claim for these visits with the code G8553.To document the use of e-prescription.
I appreciate your opinion.
Thanks

That's a good question. I don't think so because the code is supposed to be submitted with certain CPT codes (i.e. new patient, established patient codes) to qualify.

But I may be wrong...seems like you could put the day of the encounter as the day of the G-code and it would work but Medicare is odd. Just start brand new

I sent some claims already for some of these patients with G code. I did use the same date of service the script was made when the pateint was in the office. Non of the patient was in global period . They were all either new or established patients. Medicare has already received claims for these patients on the same day I reoported these visits. It is just like like adding a code to previous claim. I am just trying to catch up to make sure I got the number I need before june 30. From Now on I add the G code with any medicare patient who has a script.
Of course I wont be able to know if Medicare will honer these claims as being only notification that somthing I missed. As you know CMS can easly audit any claim for duplication or invalid date of service. I can always printed form my AC for verification if CMS requested. I hape I am doing the right thing.
I will let you know. If my payment change after june 30.
Thanks for your input

As I was reading through the fine print from CMS, I clearly remember that they said you could NOT submit a claim just to add the G code to a previous service date.

I think I got all the claims sent with G-gode rejected by cms
That confirm your opinion that it has to be included in the original claim.
I don't know if CMS keep tract with the claim including G-code or we have to submit a proof.
