Whenever we get records request from another doctor, we always fax them over. First, my nurse would print out all messages, notes, addendum and pc fax that group together. Then we would have to select each imported item individually and fax them over. The fax machine would be dialing out 30-40 times for the very large charts with huge amounts of imported items.
Is there an easier way to fax records to another office?

You should check out Updox as a lot of the users on this forum recommend it greatly. I'll wait for one of them to explain the numerous benefits and the robust, yet simple, interface for Amazing Charts. (I watched a couple demos on youtube). It's like an all in one management console.

One way to do it would be to print the chart to the Updox printer and then fax it as one bundle. For our larger charts, we are now copying to CD and mailing it.

you could use Updox as above, but I think you're charged for outbound faxes, and those records pages add up ... cheaper if you mail the CD as Catherine mentions... or, if you don't use UpDox... you can use a free software PDF reDirect ( www.exp-systems.com), print each note/addendum/imported item to it... which combines them all into one nice PDF file (which you can also set a password to, in case you use this to make the CD mentioned)... then fax just that one file... free via the PC fax.

I would print the record to Updox then send them. It does count against your total number of faxes, as it's per page. I would imagine for a large chart I would just burn it on CD and send it off.

The fax machine would be dialing out 30-40 times for the very large charts with huge amounts of imported items. I missed this part. You may want to invest in a better fax modem. 30-40 times is a lot. Mainpine IQ Express would be my recommendation. What are you using now?

What am I using now?
Basically I go to print entire record. 1 print to brother pc-fax all notes and messages to fax number 2. then the imported items all pop up individually in adobe acrobat reader. We don't fax over insurance card so we close that box. If its a lab, we pc-fax that one out next. We continue with each imported item this way.

I go to previous encounters and print all records and labs to a pdf printer (I use pdfill.com) and that makes one file of all AC notes - then I use pdfill utility to combine files and combine this file and all pdf in Imported Items / Acct number - this makes one large pdf file that I can burn to Cd or print/fax. I can do this for any pt in about 2 minutes - works great. You should download pdfill.com and give it a try.

I do just as Steven does above. I use pdf-redirect like Chris. It automatically merges all documents you print but you can add delete and rearrange them prior to printing.
Most of the time I use the Brother pc fax. It rarely times out, but if it does it resumes where it left off. Ithen take the pdf document and fax it
I a;sometimes use built in microsoft fax which does sometimes time out and restart but it also keeps a record of what it has faxed so it gives documentation that the fax was sent. (Brother fax doesn't work well in one office, probably need to reinstall, but Microsoft fax picks up the slack.)
