Thanks to Leslie I have a nice Excel spreadsheet that I am using to track patient labs. I filled in the appropriate info, saved the file and imported it into a patients AC chart.
When I try to open it from the imported items section, I can see the file but I get the following error:
"'server01/amazingcharts/importitems/blah/blah/blah could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verity that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted"
Once I click "OK", the file opens up no problem. I can actually see the file in the folder that it states too.
Am I missing something? Now mind you, it still works and I can save/edit.
Thanks

Well, I am the last person to help you with this as I know very little about Imported Items. I guess there are two things I would try.
1. If you have the file saved after opening it to the desktop or somewhere, then delete the file from within AC and then make sure it is gone from the corresponding folder in ImportItems folder in AC. Then reimport after restarting AC. Just a guess. 2. Go to the main program window, click CTRL + A, in Administrative Options go to Tools. On the drop down list select: Imported Items: Repair missing files and links. Run that and see if it helps.
It would also be helpful if you take us step by step through the process you are using complete with whether you deleted the file after importing. (which I am guessing you didn't since it is a template)

Hi Bert,
I already tried your #1 suggestion before I posted on the forum. Will have to try your other suggestion.
When I'm in the imported items section and I single click the excel file, in the upper right hand corner under the comments section it states:
"Envelope Info: Imported on 4/25/2011 5:23:03 PM by MARTINHOLT. Originally located at C:\Users\martinholt\Desktop\Office Forms\Santos.XLS and currently saved at \\server01\amazingcharts\ImportItems"
Strange Thanks

Good luck. Is this with only one patient?

I tried it with two different patients. It's just strange because I can fully edit the files. I even tried starting a new file and naming it something different and had the same problem. (even after deleting the file in the AC folder)
I think it has something to do with my laptop not being able to see the server although I can access the AC database without difficulty (which is located on the server)
Not really sure what's going on. It's just annoying at this point. Just tried the excel import function today for the first time.

That is strange. May want to PM either Ryanjo or JBS as they seem to be the resident II guys. What happens if you write a letter and print it, and it says it saved to the chart (which would be in I.I.). What happens when you open that?

Have you tried mapping a network drive where the excel file is located? Instead of using My Network Places or \\Servername\Folder, try mapping as a network drive in My Computer: ![[Linked Image from oi52.tinypic.com]](http://oi52.tinypic.com/9jou95.jpg)

I am going to have to have our IT guy come and take a look at this. I cannot Map the network drive as I'm unable to see it under the network (although I can access the AC database).
I think that may be the problem.

I haven't had much luck with mapping the AC folder.
What do you mean by "unable to see it under the network"
If you type \\computer_name\Amazing Charts what do you get.
And, even though it should make no difference, if you drag and drop the file into the patient's chart, is there any difference?

Bert,
When I click on file explorer then click on the network tab, it lists what computers are on the network. For some reason I can't see the server although I am able to use the AC database that is stored on the server. My IT guy can't figure out what's going on. I am running Win 7 Pro on a laptop and the server is running Windows Server (although I don't know which version). ( When I type \\computer_name\amazing charts I get an error "HTTP 404 Not Found" (Of course using the proper address on our network)
I'll try the drop and drag method and see what happens.
Thanks for everyone's input

When I drop and drag an excel file into imported items. It saves it under the unspecified category with the file name 00000001.LNK. When I double click the file under Imported Items a dialog box opens and asks "Do you want to open or save this file". When I click open, it does so without the error message.

Well, that is interesting. That is how it is supposed to work. Somehow, the import process seems to mess with the path, which also makes no sense.
So, when you use the import method, are you putting it into a specif folder?
Also, what do you get when you run ipconfig /all at a command prompt on your server?
What happens when you ping your server with ping server IP address at a command prompt?
You shouldn't have to share anything but your Amazing Charts folder, but just for fun, if you set NTFS permissions on the ImportItems folder is it setting permissions for the child folders as well? Sub folders.

When I import an item (which I haven't done much of because of this problem), I do so from the import items tab in the patients chart ie Control-F. I browse for the file and fill out the requested info (date, item type, item subject). Then I click "Import Items"
I will have to try your other suggestions as well

It is not recommended to drag and drop. When you do this, you get the .lnk files which is a shortcut extension. Then all your files would be where they reside on your computer while the shortcuts would be in the ImportItems folders and in the chart.
Importing them, puts the actual file in the ImportItems folders.

Thanks for everyone's input Instead of using \\Computer_Name\Amazing Charts, try using the exact IP address of the server. I.e. \\192.168.2.200\Amazing Charts, I've seen this problems tons of times when mixing XP with Windows 7. To see your IP, as Bert mentioned earlier, run CMD and type ipconfig /all

The reason most IT pros don't recommend Small Business Server is because they aren't IT pros. SBS requires them to learn:
1. Active Directory2. Sharepoint 3. Exchange 4. SQL Server if you get the premium edition

The other and quick thing to do is always try uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling that machine or is happening directly on the main computer?

Have you tried opening the documents from AC on the server? That would be a good troubleshooting step.
Also, what version Excel are you using? Are you up to the version which uses .xlsx? or still with .xls?

We don't have Excel installed on the server, so I wouldn't be able to open the documents from there.
We're using an old version of excel, 2000. That might be the problem too? We're a new community clinic and unfortunately don't have the money right now to get the new version of office let alone all the PC's we're going to need to get the full use out of AC. Right now AC is only running on two new laptops.

Download Open Office. It is free and is just like Excel

Right now AC is only running on two new laptops. I doubt an old version of Excel is causing the network problems. But it is nonetheless a good troubleshooting step. OpenOffice is a great substitute for Microsoft Excel. There is also an Excel Viewer provided by Microsoft, it's compatible with: Microsoft Excel 2010 Microsoft Office Excel 2007 Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Microsoft Excel 2002 Microsoft Excel 2000 Microsoft Excel 97 http://bit.ly/excelviewerExcel is not installed on the AC server. We have two laptops both same model Gateway running Vista Pro and this issue happens with both laptops. I was wondering if you tried my solution and if you received any error messages. As they can help pinpoint the issue.

I have been and still am on jury duty. Usually don't get picked but I did this time so I am out of the office.
I'm going to download the free office you suggested Leslie thanks.
@Sluthra - I haven't tried that suggestion yet. I don't have full administrative privileges on the network so will see what I can do to try that out.
Thanks
I'm registered for the ACUC and looking forward to meeting some of you

Just an update on my excel imported items error. For some reason, it now works without any issues. I did not do anything different or change any settings.
It just started working normally.

want to move to chicago, switch to sports medicine, take very little pay but work in my office? you can wear jeans and a polo! lol
Honestly, does this only happen when you import excel files...or only when you are chaging that excel file. and when you update it, are you first deleting the file that is already imported from the chart? and then just reimporting as if it is a totally new file?

Ketan,
I LOVE Chicago, just don't think i could handle the winters up there. I used to live in Belleville and went up to Chicago every chance I got.
That only happened when I opened imported excel files. I got the error but was able to open it anyways. I tried importing and deleting the original as well as importing and not deleting the original.
I think Berts assessment is right, it was the Excel fairy. I came back after the weekend and it works perfectly now.
