Out of curiosity I tried the E & M Coding Helper today and noticed that the statement at the bottom of the window has the bottom line cut off. Resizing the window doesn't change the problem. You can tell there is another line of text, but only the extreme top of the letters is showing--not enough to make it out. It's not really that important, since I've never used it in all this time, but I am wondering whether it is the program or my computer that is at to blame. Would somebody else check theirs and report back. Thanks,
Dave

Dave,
I am not sure if this is the bottom line or not. Mine says, "The code is determined by the two of the three highest components. More attention to your History and Decision Making can help increase this level." Of course, changing what you documented changes the statement. For instance, changing the HPI to more components makes the second part of the statement, "More attention to your Exam and Decision Making."
Which, ironically, brings up a point I have talked about for years, although no one has ever commented on my comment. I don't really want another mouse click, but given that you do not have to choose a complexity leads to its staying the same. For instance if I choose medium or high complexity for a note, it's likely to stay high complexity even for conjunctivitis.

Bert, you probably already understand this better than I do, but I think that part of the Coding Helper is automated and part is not. If you add more systems to your ROS, for example, I think the Helper recognizes that and determines the appropriate code. On the other hand, complexity is not "calculated"; it defaults to moderate unless you specify something else. If you set the complexity to high, on your next note it will ask if you want to keep it at that level or change it. (I think if you follow a high complexity visit with a simple one for conjunctivitis-or anything else- it will ask if you want to keep the level at high).

I guess I am not sure I understand you. I may be misinterpreting what you are saying.
Complexity is included in the CPT code, although I think you are't stating that.
Yes, if you put high, it will tell you, but if you put moderate, it won't. So, given you may be audited and it may be stuck on Low Complexity without my thinking about it, the note (if I have this preference selected) will print out low complexity on a pneumonia, and it will be hard to explain.
How does the Coding Helper recognize my ROS? Does the program have the ability to parse data?

It was apparently a glitch with my program. Mine said "The code is determined by the two of three highest components. More attention to your History and Decision Making can" and located one line below the last three words you could see the tops of more letters (which probably read "help increase this level". I'm not sure why it did that, but I haven't been able to reproduce it, so I guess it was the giant solar flare. : )
