I think Bert is just trying to prolong this and purposefully not posting.

Bert - don't go shy now.

Alright, here is some Bert-bait. I had an office tell me recently they didn't need to worry about backups, they bought really good [brand-name] computers, and they are sure they will last for years.

That's funny ...I hear Bert said if you bought a Dell you didn't need to do backups.

Oh Indy, don't bait Bert. We all know he backs up all his data on the 10,000 free America Online signup 3.5" floppy disks he saved during the 1990s. So economical.

I hear Bert said if you just install Windows Me on all your machines, your network will run so smoothly. Has to be the home version, though.

I also hear Bert says you should get rid of Word on all your computers. He recommends using the "awesome" AC letter writer for all document writing. He even developed some sort of work around where you can use the letter writer instead of Excel for spreadsheets.

Bert-bait, indeed.

I heard a rumor that Bert is tired of maintaining Outlook, and is switching everyone to Outlook Express, and opening the 110 firewall port so that everyone can reach the mail server.

Perhaps Bert will come over to the wild side and start using OpenOffice.

Bert-Bait.

I think we should pitch in and convert his server to a OpenBSD box with a Windows VM on it as a surprise.

I think he is waiting until we have no more to say. That may take a long time.

Or he could be setting up an online version of AC so we can all access it and have one big database.

Or maybe he just gave up on AC and switched to eClinicalWorks.

Or he bought into the luddite philosophy and gave up computers.

Or maybe he's just enjoying how much we can push him smile

Or maybe he is waiting to see just how creative we are going to be at goading him into making his 5000th post.

I must admit to being a bit concerned at this point, myself. Obviously, I don't know Bert as well as the rest of you, but he certainly seems to be a great guy with a fun sense of humor. I would have thought the obligatory smart-aleck remark would have pulled him back here by now.

OK, I am here. The big 5000!

Honestly, this thread has been so funny (and yes touching), I didn't know what to say.

But, here goes:

I would like to thank everyone on here for being so wrong all the time about everything that I had to write 5000 posts to correct you.

You know I am just kidding. smile

I absolutely love AC, and I have never seen a board with more people helping others. It is a great board with a mixture of humor and helping with just a tad of flaming mostly started by me.

Truth be told I am hiding out from Jim so I am not lassoed into the ACUC committee.

Yes, Bert, welcome back!
A glance at your list of posts shows that you were actually "gone" from the forum from the morning of 1/31 until today. Hopefully it warms your heart to realize that your presence is so important that people are ready to launch search parties into the deepest woods of Maine after you are "missing" for 48 hours!

And, I thought everyone in medical school had no sense of humor. I guess it's all the paperwork and wonderful patients that brings it out in us.

I will definitely head the ACUC if I can get all of my tweaks through.

And, if I am missing, you can generally find me in one of four places in this order:

1. My office
2. In my bed
3. At a sushi bar
4. At any bar

Now, I know that those aren't in the right order, but whatever.

Bert, congratulations on #5000. I'd also like to personally thank you for being a champion for AC and recognize the tremendous amount of help you have given me, not to mention the money saved. I'm not "computer savvy" and stumble about trying to keep my 10 computer network humming along. You recently spec'ed out a server for me and advised how to approach Dell. I followed your advice, was assigned a sales person, drove him crazy, and although you said try for 5-10% off of retail, I walked away Friday with a 16%+ discount AFTER he upgraded several key components. I owe you a couple of drinks, well actually, I owe you dinner at the next ACUC. Thanks again!
