We use this feature for printing lab orders and yet there is no way as far as I can tell to reference that this has been done. Is there something I am missing? I appreciate any help offered. Thank you!

When you enter an order, you should get an email message that you have done that. You save the message (it is attached to the pt chart), and voila you have documented the order. (If you execute an order from within an open note, the order populates the plan field.) If you are not getting this message, I don't know.

You will get an email back to you only if you have not opened the chart. To avoid that - choose a name on right or left side of screen, go to patient, choose print order- order the test- print or fax- then you will get an email back to you.

If you choose a name, then go to patient, put the order in, then open the chart (which you should not do, let us say you wanted to look at something in chart like past history) and then print the order, you will not get the email, it will flow into chart and you will have to sign to save it, but that would be a nonsense encounter- as patient was not seen and you signed an encounter just for a lab order. (After you open the screen to print the order and then remembered to look into past history, then close the order screen, read the prior history, many need to write down or remember mentally and then put in the order)

Hopefully it is not confusing-
regards
