Will AC be going foward on creating electronic peepholes per CCHIT recommendation?
A very troubling report prepared by the Research Triangle Institute International (RTI) was released in August recommending that electronic medical record system vendors build portals into their systems that would allow payers to access physicians' and patients' electronic health records (EHRs) for purposes of fraud detection, what could be termed as "electronic peepholes." The 115-page report, titled Recommended Requirements for Enhancing Data Quality in Electronic Health Record Systems was commissioned by the federal Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology (ONCHIT). A copy of the report is available online. The ONCHIT reportedly has already signed off on RTI's recommendations, and the proposed new CCHIT criteria were released on September 13 for a 30-day public comment period.
I feel this feature will directly violate the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship in favor of overly broad and unrestricted policy powers for health insurers.

Roy, So seeing that many of us are also opposed to such things I have a few pointed requests of you: 1) Can you supply all of us with a link to this report for faster access than hunting for it ourselves? 2) Do you know how and where we can be part of this public comment period? I know a NYS law firm that just gave a great talk on records requests, NYS Prompt Pay, Auditing and all the like, That would be most distressed by all of this. And that they, the Local County chapter of the MSSNY (State Medical Society) and MSSNY theyselves would probably want to be invloved in trying to fight this....They seem to be proactive about as they all want to teach us how to fight this how and when we can.... Thanks much. Good Night and Good Luck, Paul

Roy, As far as I'm concerned no red blooded American should not be worried and involved with such things. This is the insurance version of Aberto Gonzo-gate. And it will only get worse as more and more insurance becomes gov't covered. Where does our or our patients' privacy end? They now want to try and make what used to be a request at a time thing, into an all the time thing. "Hey let's go wake-up the AG while he is half asleep and under sedation and see if we can't get him to sign off on unwarrented wiretaps?" "Great idea boss...." Keep the Faith, Paul

Talk about being held by the short hairs, I am now in my 4th week at my new office location which is 1.5 miles from my previous one. Only one line of my address changed. I have been a Medicare provider for almost 20 years. But because of this one line change, I have not received a dime from Medicare in over 4 weeks!!!!! As Medicare makes up almost 60% of my revenue, if I survive the rest of the week without my creditors storming my office it will be a miracle. Do you think any other business in the world would be forced to accept these terms?? Absolutely not. And, let me warn all of you, if you are contemplating any changes and you are a Medicare provider, be prepared to give up your sanity, not to mention your house and car. Apparently also, any time you make any change with your Medicare you are now being forced to accept direct electronic deposits, which would not be all that bad IF THEY WOULD MAKE THE DAMNED DEPOSITS!!! It's been nice knowing all you, if only via Cyberspace. I fear the rumors of my death have been sorely underestimated.

I just can't wait for all the insanity when we file to change our address when we take our billing back in house soon. And this is how they treat an "insider". A "Participating Provider". Can you imagine how they would treat an enemy. Oh right we are the enemy, I forget so quickly sometimes... *****Anyway, folks this is very serious stuff. This a loud and public request to all members of the board. ***** Call and write anyone you can think of including these CHITTheads. There is now less than 30 days to let the bastards know that we still believe in the basic founding principles of the constitution including ours and our patients basic rights of privacy and the sanctity of the doctor patient relationship. No un-warrented searches. This is really what this amounts to, no joke. And Without some amount of trust and privacy all intimate relationships suffer and die. This can not be allowed to come to pass!!! Write all your state and federal reps. Write all your newspapers, keep bugging your local and state medical societies until they promise to take up the cause. That or else we shall all soon be doomed..... All requests for patients files and records must remain on a case by case, with due cause basis or we are all screwed. Every last claim you ever submit with be suspect, questions and revoked. There will soon be a time when almost all doctors can say that they have all been audited. It is the stance of the NYS medical society that every request for records is a form of an audit and that they must always be handled properly. And that furthermore, when ever possible, don't give them the records. It is none of their darn business! Period, short, the end. When this pipeline goes into effect, there will be no stopping these SOB's. Please take this seriously and get hopping. Thanks much and... Good Night and Good Luck Paul

(this is paraphrased from WSMA newsletter) Roy, I counted six acronyms in this post. Shouldn't there be an acrony registry or something. Anyway, I am officially limiting the amount of acronyms to five in any given post.<G> I do this on the authority of being the post leader, lol. I also post this, because I know you will have something much wittier to say in reply.
