It seems like when you want to type in the med list, a pop up occur which ask you to input it through the script writer. But there is no easy way to insert drugs to the list without using the script writer.
To free text, you'd have to say no to using the script writer, and free text. But it takes away the ability to check for spelling and cross reactions.
I find the script writer cumbersome and pain in the butt to use. Is there an easy way of inputting drugs using the script writer without going through all the screens?

Hey Pinetree, I think I understand what you mean. You shouldn't actually use the free text option for things which should get into the med list (though if it doesn't need to go onto the actual med list thats a good place for it) as, IIRC, it wont be automatically updated the next time you open that patients chart.
Instead, when updating the medlist with past prescriptionis try double clicking on the "Medlist" field in the chart. You'll get an alternative med screen which only requires the med and an optional sig, but the entered meds still go intot the med writer and if you pick from the list it will be codified for interaction checking too.
Does this help?

The other issue is that people are having a hard time deciding on what problems people are having because so many people are not using a current version of AC - I don't use the scrip writer for instructions, qty and it is quite easy, but I am using version 5.1.5. I think it is important people at least mention what version of AC they are using - also if you have guardian support you should contact them and at least make sure you are on a version 5.something. I recenty read where someone had just upgraded from 3.7 - many improvements and error fixes since then.

Thanks. Now I have figured out how to do it. Double click on the medlist.
I was hoping that my receptionist can input the meds while the patient is making an appt, that way they have easy access. But apparently, they will have to open up the chart and double click on the medlist to get to the right field. As right clicking on the name will bring up the med prescribing box, which is not the same.
Another problem I see is that alot of patient remember their med, but not the dosage. The med list does not have a generic med without dosage. So you can not put lisinopril in, you must have a dosage to get it accepted.
I hope that future version of AC will have an easier way for staff to input meds, and a way to input med to check for interactions without knowing the mg dosage or knowing the %.
