They are imported into the practice documents manager.
To access this you go to the main screen and under the view menu, 3rd from the bottom you click and it will give you the option of importing, viewing or removing a document from the list.
We also use it for the various forms for patient.s

How would you email these forms, if desired to a patient?

As an attachment.
While AC keeps a copy in it's inner workings,
You should have "original" copies that you can send to patients if you are doing that.
You could print to PDF if you are unsure or have deleted the originals.

How do you import a handout such as a blank work excuse or other patient handouts? I have tried to import the document, it shows under the patient documents but when I try to open it or print the document it acts like nothing is there.

I noticed that if I tried that with an MS word doc, I got that error. But it worked fine with a PDF file, so all our handouts are in PDF.

For work or school excuses etc. I found Practice Documents more awkward than just putting a MS Word document on the desktop. Using "forms" put in auto date, field for name, drop down menu for "seen in office this morning" or "seen in office this afternoon" etc. and finally inserted JPG of signature and restrict editing/saved. Just bring it up, tab to fill in or select items and hit print, which is defaulted to front desk, and tell the patient pick it up on the way out (oh, and while you're there, pay the bill)

I had to test this, because I almost always make my documents in PDF format and have forever. It opened to a box that stated it was a compressed file and the first time asked me to find the native program. The subsequent time it stated did I want to open or save the compressed folder, when I stated open it worked. This did and does not happen when you save it as an import item.
Do you have a copy of Word on the computer you tried to open it? You need to have the native program on the computer. You can get a copy of Word reader for free or Open Office, which I use on my computers, again for free.
I have reported it as a bug already.
