Does anyone know anything about PECOS? I got a notice from one of the diabetic supply companies that says I/We need need to register with something called PECOS thru CMS to be able to have the honor of ordering supplies.

PECOS = Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requires that all providers enrolled in Medicare who are eligible to order items or services, or refer Medicare beneficiaries to other Medicare providers or suppliers for services, must also be enrolled in PECOS. If you are not enrolled in this system and submit a claim as the provider who ordered or referred a service, the claim will be rejected. Even more importantly, you can't participate in the EMR incentives unless you enroll in PECOS.

You can get information how to sign up here.

Interesting, since they will dis-enroll you if you do not bill in a 90 day period. As a pediatrician, this means although I have children with disabilities I cannot participate.

silly.

Also bear in mind that everyone who enrolled in Medicare many years ago had to reapply to be put in PECOS - took me many months and multiple phone calls, forms, etc to get back in. All of this so Liberty medical could send me orders for diabetic testing supplies to fill out at my leisure (although they call every day to see if done for a pt I have not seen in 3 months).

Steven, any words of wisdom about this? Several times I have tried to get through this process, but I keep getting stuck. Is there a phone number that might connect me to someone who can actually help me get a number?

I think it was pure luck - sent in application - then told to reapply and then someone we called told us that was wrong as they were backed up 6 months. I would recommend you call a company that you send lots of orders to and see if one of their people could help you - if you send lots of orders for Oxygen or some DME it is in their best interest to help you get registered.
