After several months on AC, several patients are getting a fair number of imported labs and x-rays. We have not scanned in old charts and try hard to maintain import discipline, but still the growth is unavoidable.
We are now finding that it is getting slow to open the imported items when the tab is clicked on these larger charts. Sometimes it is taking 20 seconds or more staring at a blank page until the list of labs and imports shows.
The imported items folder is in the customary place on the server. I am concerned that at this rate in not too long it will be unusable. I know that many have suggested when scanning in old charts that they go into a separate shared folder, but it seems that AC ought to be able to handle a few dozen lab and x-ray reports without choking.
Are others finding this to be true? Any suggestions?

I think we had this problem when we were wireless and then we hardwired most of our computers. We have been importing for over 18 months and aren't having this problem. Back up takes longer and longer though.

maybe not a solution ... however I was initially scanning at too high a resolution and produced huge files - was able to reduce the file size by simply selecting a lower resolution.
would be even lower if I could select black and white but apparently AC prevents this - at least I cant figure it out - there was a prior discussion.
in any event, even with large files, my wait is occasionally a few seconds (except in the am at first log on ??- takes a long time to print a PDF but the rest of the day is fine) - My import file is at 50gigs and growing - includes prior charts.

Thanks. We are not scanning things... all our imports are UpDox faxes and Quest lab imports. I'll try comparing hard wired vs. wireless in the near future.

David, I was going to respond much as Gino did, but it sounds like your individual file size may not be the issue. I would still check the size of the individual files being imported. I am not sure how Updox sets the file size, but maybe that can be adjusted. How big is your Import Items folder? Ours is about 25 gb and we don't have that issue. Just out of curiosity...what happens when you open the import items on a chart by using the F9 shortcut? I have never understood this (maybe someone more knowledgeable can explain) why it is quicker to open the chart with the "F" shortcuts than it is to open the whole chart directly. And obviously, sitting in front of the computer where the database is stored and accessing it directly would tell you have much of an impact the network is having (and how much benefit could be obtained by speeding it up).

Our import items file is 5.1 GB, so it does not look like that is the issue. I'm beginning to suspect the network and switch. The F9 is quick, but I could not tell for sure how much quicker. There is a lot of variability in the speed, but I'm pretty sure wired is consistently a lot quicker than wireless.
