Why would I want to do that when I can spend all night troubleshooting this delightful BSOD:
Kernel_Data_In_Page_Error 0000007A and then like five parameters.
Either hard drive, RAM or drivers or a million other things. But, when into repair mode from Windows Disk, chkdsk /p showed hdd errors and chkdsk /r couldn't do much about it. memtestx86 found RAM to be perfect -- damn..too easy of a fix I guess.
Acting very weird...almost malware like. But, I have only run three virus/malware scanners including MBAM and ComboFix. I still have to put the CF log up on EE.
Wow, how did I get off on that tangent?
What the hell is a leatherman?

Is the disk a RAID or single disk? You realize we are breaking the rules of single subject threads right? What does a low-level scan of the disk surface tell you? And to add to the chaos: Leatherman :: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leatherman

Single disk on a client. I believe it told me there were some bad sectors. Not sure. I can still boot into it. Some times it has to boot three times. Do you ever believe in SpinRite from Steve Gibson. I have heard both good and bad.

I have used spinrite with mixed results on pretty messed up old discs. If it says disc is bad...trust it.

Drives are cheap compared to recovery/restore costs. That is why RAID is your friend.

Thanks mk,
Don't worry I figured it was bad. Just trying to clone it. Some say they have an extra computer lying around. I just happen to have a brand new one. So, I swapped it out. I will try to change the drive when I actually have time and not at 3am.
Indy. If it completely dies, I'll just throw it in the river. There is no data on it. All my data is on the server with multiple backups and multiple RAID.
I don't really want to set up RAID, even software, on my clients. For me, anyway, that is a little overkill.

Bert, I had no idea you touched clients any more; I wasn't suggesting you RAID a client desktop.
Besides, you take the dead drive, wrap it in some nice textured fabric, and turn it into a door stop.

How can you have a network without clients? Are you suggesting, I put 10 servers in a domain, lol?

It's not dead yet. Nothing that rebooting by using: Start Computer Using The Last Known Good Configuration.
Uhh...Microsoft. There's no such thing as a last known GOOD configuration. Only a configuration. Even with a clean install, I don't think there is a good configuration.
Oh man..see what you've done to me, Indy. You have made me turn against Microsoft. I feel like Lebron James and Cleveland. Maybe I will hold a one-hour ESPN special to let everyone know the outcome of my 3.5" SATA drive.
It is ironic that just a few weeks ago I talked about the MTTF. Given I had 10 PCs with hard drives for three years, guess I was due. Probability would now say I am just as due minus one new hard drive in the new PC.
