If I am writing a message and realize that I have to check the patients chart again (I am continuously interrupted from multiple different directions) I have to redo my message all over again from the beginning. Could it just hold that thought while I go elsewhere for a sec?

This happens to me all the time. The work around I've come up with is to highlight everything in my message and <ctrl> C it.

That puts it on the computer's clipboard, where it stays while I go to the schedule side of AC and/or check a chart. When I'm ready to go back to the message, I <ctrl> V it.

You can go through the left click menu and select cut and paste instead, but I only do that if I'm on one of the tablets.

It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

If I understand you correctly, you are in the message window typing a reply, and you need to check the patient's chart. Naturally, you click on the "Pull Chart" button to the right of the message window. The chart opens, with a dialog box that asks if you want to delete the message (dumb...of course not). You review the chart, and close the chart -- but back at the message window, the text that you already typed has vanished.

Next time, if you need to open the chart in the midst of typing a reply, find the message in the inbox list above the message window. Right click on the message and choose "Pull chart". The chart opens, but it doesn't erase your partially typed reply.

Wow! I never knew that. That's awesome. John, I forget if you're going to the ACUC. If not, can I steal that one when I am presenting? I promise to give you credit...I promise.

Bert,

I won't be there, not even lurking, so feel free to share the tip.
