I am new to AC so this is my first question...I am the DON for a small FP clinic that only has PCP part-time. Nurses see the patients about half the time. How user friendly is AC for the nurses charting? For instance how do most nurses chart phone calls, Rx called etc..

The exact same way an MA does. Anybody can do messages. Not sure what your setup is with your PCP as far as prescriptions, but you you can do ePrescribe if it is set up that way and fax. If you call in a script, you would do it through ePrescribe, you just wouldn't send it. That would be enough to record it in the chart.

This can be a touchy area, so if anyone else wants to chime in...

OK, I Googled DON. Couldn't find out what it meant.

Did I forget to mention we are a VERY poor non-profit clinic that just lost our state funding and are still doing everything by paper? It has taken me several months to convince everyone that we needed to get into the 20th century (I'll on work on getting us into the 21st century later)and start using an EMR. We aren't e-doing anything yet.I mainly call in Birth control,STD meds etc fron standing orders. Are there anyother nurses out there using AC?

I understand your situation. But, I am confused, because if you are using Amazing Charts, ePrescribe comes with it at no charge if you have already paid for the product.

Lori, if you're not using AC, download the free product and set up a fake patient and play with the program. You'll be able to see all the uses and things you can do with the program. In my practice, all notes are sent attached to a patient chart. Therefore all actions and responses are documented in the chart.

Of course, it makes no sense to have the nursing charting if the providers are not on board as well.

How do your providers feel about e-charting?

They'll be on board once I get the computers in place for them to use

If nurses are charting, and I believe they should in a medical record, would they have to be listed as highest level providers? Would they need to be co-signed or would they have to be enrolled at the $1000/person? I'm a psychiatrist and it would be nice for the therapists in my office to use the system, but not worth the extra cost at this point. I don't want to co-sign their notes since they are independent practitioners.

My MA does this, and I wouldn't call it charting in the sense that a doctor or mid-level does a progress note and gets compensated at the CPT level.

My MA also calls in meds from standing orders and from my direction. So, I suppose unless she is talking about something more, I wouldn't think she has crossed the lines into needing to be licensed in AC, etc.
