Late yesterday I discovered the office had a major power failure over the weekend that way outlasted our huge (1200 amp/hour) UPS battery bank, and actually melted one of the lead battery terminals and a battery case. All the servers went down. The power spikes overrode our power conditioner, and took out the hard drive in the hardware firewall and the card scanner. So, the UPS had to be bypassed, all computers had to be brought back on line, all connections reestablished, and no fax, lab, or e-mail until noon.

Not long ago when the power went out I just turned on a flashlight and took notes. The stethoscope worked just fine.

Don't you mean that you pulled out an oil lamp and kept on going? Back in the day, that's what we would have done!
