In a thread about deleting unnecessary documents, Adam said “I don't trust anyone with AC to be an administrator but I. Therefore I will correct the errors.”
I am interested in more thoughts about this. My initial inclination was not to give any staff administrator rights. When I asked my office manager to block-off certain hours and days for meetings, vacations, etc., I showed her how to do it without going in as an administrator. She came back the next day and pointed out that when she made little mistakes (like blocking an extra 15 minute block, or misspelling “vacation”), that she couldn’t fix them; I would have to go in as administrator and do it. This made me reconsider, and I wonder if it really makes much difference who has admin privileges. What is the downside of giving them to others?

I wish administrative duties were more broken down in AC so that I could assign a specific task. I have a few trusted employees that I will log on as an administrator for, but I have them log off when the specific task is done. I do not entrust them with the password.

downside would be that a disgruntled employee could delete your entire schedule if they have administrator privledges. they also could make changes to your CPTs/charges that would be difficult to find. they could delete other users and also could change/see all passwords. plenty of downside and probably more than I mentioned.

I do all the Admin on our system. Alice doesn't even really know how to get into that section. But then, I'm her brother and I'm not going to intentionally mess things up in a hissy fit (though I might put my coat on, walk out the door and say "you do it." No I wouldn't).

I would like to have the ability to allow my office manager to change the schedule, but I do not want to give her the ability to add, deactivate or change status and password on people. I also do not want to allow her to mess with registration, prescrition and accessory subscriptions.

So, I keep that password to myself. When the schedule needs to be changed, they have to come to me. Again, it would be nice to have some things that could be mid level administration and higher level administration.

I agree, Wendell. That would be a nice feature.

Sounds like what's needed is a "Security" user designation. This could be a non-medical person, so the system will let them do some things particular to system admin but not some other things.

Speaking of security, I thought V5 was going to have a 'log file' that would allow one to track who accesses the chart, date and time, etc. Is this available on V5? It's part of being CCHIT certified, right?

Thanks.

It does. I can't remember where it is at the moment though. But I did stumble across it.
