We purchased a Fujitsu S300 Scanner, & found out that it is not TWAIN compliant & it cannot be networked.

The purpose is scanning lots of old charts, front desk help for Ins...etc.

Has anyone had success with any particular Scanner ?

I use a fujitsu - do not use TWAIN interface and using scansnap it works great for importing. Have imported 1500-2000 old charts and thousands of other records.

Networking issue - why would you network scanner ? Since the scanner is only in one spot the person has to go to scanner so I don't see how workflow would let you use network functions. Import/scan with one scanner/one computer.

I heartily recommned Xerox 515 Documate. Nice batch capability.

Also, like Steven, don't know what is meant regard "networking" the scanner.

I've used the fujitsu fi 4120C2 - it does pretty good, not networkable. Each station basically has a scanner attached to their workstation so everyone can scan in what's needed. Just recently though we picked up the Kyocera FS-1128MFP Which, wow. Its amazing in its capabilities. It is networkable, can scan directly to a folder and functions with paperport and a command center. It can email, copy and be used as a fax machine. A commercial grade multi-function unit that runs about 1,100.00 or so.

Networkable is a device that saves information directly to the server or database that can be accessed by any work station on the network.

You should be able to set up any scanner as saving directly to a folder/drive anywhwere on the network, just choose the place to save as a mapped drive. Then anyone can use the data.

How much was/would you think - the time & effort would be to transfer the scanned documents from the Scanned Folder into the Amazing Charts ? 1000 + Charts.
This info will tell me whether to go get one which is Twain Compliant.

I would say forget twain. Yes, you can control it from within AC, but it seems almost every here uses a fujitsu which is not twain compatable and it is not a big deal.

Usually you scan then import. Depending on the size of the chart, scanning can be 2-5 or more minutes a chart. At 5 minutes x 1K charts that would be 83 or so hours. It took my staff about 2 months to scan over a thousand old charts, but they were doing it during off hours.

Then select the pt name and F9, when you go to import items it will be in the place last used (the folder with all the scanned charts probably) Not faster with a twain compatable.

I picked up a fujitsu 3093gx scanner for something like $60.00 on ebay It's real fast and takes many more documents. I also picked up a roller kit for another 30 or so dollars and it works like a new machine. It has probably scanned 3 or 4 thousand charts easily.

We use fujitsu 5110s at the front desk for incoming items and they are good but not for high volume, but they are small and don't take up a lot of space.

Usually the main thing that goes wrong with fujitsu scnners are the rollers, and you can usually find them on ebay very cheaply.

I have a fujitsu and it is twain compatible. But if I were doing it again, I'd get the non-twain fujitsu.

We stay with a twain scanner for reception so we can eliminate a few steps (ie time) by scanning things like insurance cards directly.
