Hi,
I am interested in purchasing AC. Will have my online demo in a few days. I have read in this forum about the problems with running DSN 10 and AC - requiring physicans to fork over more money for the latest EMR enabled version. As mentioned one possiblity is to use DSN version 9 (available on ebay). However, version 9 does not run on a 64 bit system. I found a "fix" for this on the internet at : http://www.lehsys.com/2009/02/how-to-install-dragon-naturallyspeaking-9-on-windows-7-64-bit/.

Has anyone heard of this and is this a good fix for the problem? I am not tech savy enough to know. Any general advice for a potential AC newbie?
Thanks

Dom,
The problem is not AC, the problem is Nuance crippling DNS so only v10 Medical will work with EMRs. There's been lots of thunder and lightning over this move. Yes, it was a stupid move on Nuance's part and probably alienated a good bit of their potential client base. Personally, I just go ahead and use v10 Medical. It works well with AC and makes your life a lot easier. Don't lose sleep over this, you'll make up the extra cost in no time.

Amazing - thanks for your input. I have a low volume practice so it will take me much longer to make up the cost. I had my online demo yesterday and there were a number of questions that went unanswered so I'll post them here for the community.

Can one edit the drug list but importing items to the formulary?

Can one use speech recognition that comes with Windows 7, instead of DNS?

Why doesn't sales or support know the answer to these questions?

Thanks

Trust me, the capabilities of Dragon will be appreciated once you use it. It has command capability much better than Windows. I do not think drug list can be changed by users in ver 5, it is much better than ver 4., and updates are periodically planned so I have been told.

Actually, you made me go and check out the speech recognition in Windows 7. It does work withe Amazing Charts.

I have not tried navigating with more recent versions of Dragon. Navigation with windows 7 is probably much more obtuse than with Dragon, with the caveat that I have not used later versions of dragon.

I found Dragon, and I was using version9, to be relatively accurate for typing but it was faster for me to navigate by hand and since I use a lot of templates, I wound up making a lot of corrections. It was very useful for long sections of text.

V4 introduced voice navigation but I never really checked it out, I will continue playing with it and let you know, or you could do the same with the demo version and Windows 7.

Thanks for reminding me to check out voice navigation in Windows 7.
