I am a new user, brand new family practice to boot! How can I provide a receipt for my patients BEFORE the note is complete and the superbill is generated? I would like my receptionist to be able to hand it to the patients upon payment of their co-pay instead of waiting till I finish my note to generate an invoice. any thoughts?

Well, the SHORT answer is presently you can't.
A somewhat longer answer is that collecting the co-pays and printing receipts is in the works, but is going to be a few months away.
Very few of our patients are actually asking for receipts for their co-pays, though. We use a manual receipt book, and write maybe two receipts / month.

Dr. Fernandez,
The beauty of using AC (at least for me) is that I finish my patient note while the patient is in the room. If I have a referral, I even write the referral note. So, I can always print the superbill off before they leave the room. It's just the way I do it. It may be different for you.

Bert,
Can I have my doc talk to you? I keep telling her that is the way to do it.

Btmrmom, Of course. I have plenty of time since I am finished by the end of the day. But, old habits die hard. When I used to work in a two doctor office, we had six rooms and six workstations. My partner would not finish the note 40% of the time and would just leave the room with the note open. So, the MAs couldn't put patients in, because they couldn't sign off the note. To make matters worse, at times one will sign off the note but then something else comes up like a parents wants to see the growth chart. When you open the chart and leave it up, it looks exactly like a chart that hasn't been signed off, and the MA has to go into the visit section to see if the note had been done.

It takes practice to get used to charting at the time of the visit. My notes, when they were on paper, were poor. There is much better documentation. However, you also need to be able to type reasonably well. I have dragon software but often it is easier to type unless it is an extensive note.
Producing a superbill is easy once the chart is finished, but I would still like to see my staff enter copays at the beginning of the visit.

Our Dr., my sister, doesn't even come close completing the chart in the room. Claims she can't get the patient to stop asking additional questions (or bringing up additional minor problems) so she can type up the chart. But that is the way it should be done.

Alas, I have to confess that it is rare I get the chart done in the room. First of all, I have a hard time seeing the small print (over 40 eyes) and secondly, as long as I am there, the patients (who always have several significant oh by the ways - which require at least a few more questions to determine just how significant it is.) keep talking. I have to admit I'm a bit of a perfectionist, since I know I'm not going to remember seeing the person the next day, I need to make sure everything I think is important is in that note. And yes I have dragon...but I'm not sure it's any better - after several months of use, I should not have to go back and made the same voice corrections over and over again. If I don't catch something before the note is saved...some charts end up sounding comical. I've got to find a better way of doing this. I'd be happy to have them done by 7pm the same day. Barbara

Rainy, you get the "Oh,by the way" or "One MORE thing!" too? That's exactly it! So she has to come by and finish at her desk---where other people (like me) ask her questions. But at least I TRY not to.

If integrating with Medisoft 12, can't copay receipts be printed upon payment?
