As I've said in another post, I'm opening my office in August. I had the most frustrating conversation with Dell today. Essentially for my one NP and one Acupuncturist office they were suggesting a system that would run in excess of $10K. With the current price of computers, that felt like overkill to me.
I thought what I would need is 3 desktops (reception, work area and my own), plus a laptop (will share between rooms to start). They added servers, tape backup drives, upgraded "business" desktops, etc.
So my questions to you are:
1. What hardware are you using? 2. Wireless or hard wire network? 3. Anything you would do different? 4. Any recommendations?
Many thanks.

we are a small urgent care pc, with 3 rooms, x-ray, lab. we have found AC to work great for our practice. we have 3 pc's and two tablet lap tops. one for the provider and one for the techs/rn's to use, moving it from room to room. we also have a server with mirrored hard drives and an external hard drive. we use the external hard drive to scan old charts into so as not to slow down ac with thousands of pages of stuff that will not get looked at very often but still has to be stored. we also us AC offsite back up.
we bought the pc's from dell at about a grand each and the tablets were about $1300. the server i think was also about $1500. so about 7500 with external hard drive, printers, etc. alot less than the 35,000 we were qouted with another EMR and won't even mention the 100K from another. do you have to do more work, yes as far as inputting the info and scanning the charts. but it is still well worth it. our only issue has been a bad hard drive on the network, which dell promptly replaced. the data was still on the other mirrored hard drive and on offsite backup.
very happy so far, patiently waiting the upgrade tho.

Thanks.
Some of the prices that are being thrown around seem to be excessive, especially since it really does not cost that much for a computer these days.
Our office is small - one provider to start (me), total of 5 rooms but will open only 3 to start. Since we are starting from scratch, I figure I may as well start with EMR rather than paper.
Apprciate the response.

I am trying AmazingCharts in the practice that I am in. Because I am running only off my laptop, it has slowed things down as I am entering ALL the information. If and when I decide the purchase this, I am wondering if it will work with the network. We are using approximately 10 computer off a server. We use terminal server for logging on...
Does anyone have experience using terminal server with this program? Anyproblems that you have had?
Also, we are using Appointments Professional by McKesson. Is there a way to inport the massive amounts of data we have into this program? Is there a limit to the number of patients, etc?
Thanks.
