Chris,
Welcome to AC. I can't speak to the interfaces, but I have used both Medisoft and eMedware (Sage). I must say I don't know where these companies get their softare programmers.
eMedware is considerably cheaper especially if you just get their one user license regardless. I have not used Lytec. eMedware's support is pretty good, but I know for a fact that Medisoft has incredibly good support.
Hope this helps.

Chris,
We use Lytec but don't interface to Amazing Charts. We've played with Medisoft. They're BOTH supported by NDC, who generally aren't great in the support department. From a support standpoint your best bet is to partner with a local VAR, and buy the software through them AFTER getting and checking references regarding their support capabilities.
Our recent update of Lytec was about 4 grand - not cheap.
Good luck,
V.

Chris,
I agree with Vinny as I usually do. Neither are cheap. We don't interface to AC either and part of this is because the codes aren't as accuate as they need to be.
I searched the Internet for days once (yes I have no life). You would think there would be either an Excel or Access database of ICD-9 and CPT codes up to date that could simply be plugged into AC. But, I think too many people would rather sell books and DVDs than to do this. The insurance companies should make them available.
Good luck.

I'm looking at AC right now for my new practice and haven't made a decision. This is partly because of my uncertainties regarding billing software and integration. I, too, have seen at least one obvious ICD-9 coding error in AC and I wonder how difficult it would be to manually correct the codes I'd use most often.
Assuming the codes (ICD-9 and CPT) are taken care of, is there billing software that will talk with AC?
Also, is it possible in AC to finish E/M and CPT coding without signing the encounter note? I was very surprised when I realized that it appears that the coding cannot be submitted until the note is finalized.

These are issues that I have raised over the past several years. There needs to be a better way of correcting ICD and CPT codes and make it adaptable for the individual practice. For example, 90% of the CPT and 90% of the ICD-9 codes will never be used by me. The database is apparently Access based but there is no access for the user. The medication database is a mess. I am working on cleaning that up but with over 42,000 entries (many of them are non-human dosages or gross errors of immense proportion ...mg instead of microgram)that it is a long arduous process. It would be helpful if a few of us can work together to clean up the database and proof them so there is less likelihood of medication errors arising from use of AC. The pharmacy occasionally calls me with some of the dosage/spelling errors that is present in the medication database. I also see your point about the E/M and CPT coding without signing. That would be a helpful feature for someone anal compulsive like me that don't want to finish a note prematurely... thus if I was to bill from AC, I'll have to wait until the note is completely finished (which may take weeks).
Well, it's nice to see that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Hi guys,
My Doc loves "docofficerx.com". @$400 per year for a single user. Covers; ICD9, CPT, HCPS, Medicare Fees & Fee schedule comparison, and a whole lot more.

I too am contemplating AC. One of the features that was most appealing was the billing services offered by the company. My general impression in reading through the discussion pages is that people do not like the service, but I have not seen any reasons why. Is it really that poor that we need to buy alternative billing software? Thanks for any insight and words of wisdom.
