I daily read the boards to see what others have to say given that others have excellent ideas. When we add things to the wish list many of us will add our ideas and agree with the author. As everyone knows who reads the boards, Vinny is extremely helpful in trying to get these things done. Unfortunately, it is difficult to know which wishes are looked with greater favor and which are not or which in Vinny's view are doable or not.
Many times, when we add a suggestion, we will see that 100 users read it, but only four or five commented. This in no way means that the other five didn't agree or think it would not be useful.
I am proposing that everyone takes the time when they post an idea to be incorporated into Amazing Charts, that they make a quick poll with three choices: 1. I would find this an excellent addition, 2. It would probably help, but I could live without it, or 3. I do not think this suggestion would be helpful at all.
This way, Vinny and Jon would have an idea which ideas to work on. I will use a poll here to see the response as well as restating an earlier suggestion. Thanks.
This is a good idea (100%, 15 Votes)

This idea makes absolutely no sense :) (0%, 0 Votes)

Just a clarification for the group.. I am NOT part of AmazingCharts.com, and I do not have really any say as to Jon's priorities. While I occasionally create interesting additions to Amazing Charts, I have no control whatsoever over whether Jon will accept my patches "upstream" or not.
While lately my batting average has been pretty good - and THANK YOU to people who have posted about the macros in templates - there's no guarantee that he will agree that the idea is good, or will incorporate the patch in the official program, even if I write one.
Also, while I am open to suggestions, my top priority is practicing medicine. The patches I create are ones that are designed to save me time so that I can get my work out the door.
I AM in a unique position to pass suggestions along to Jon, and WILL pass along any suggestions that the group feels are important.. I just don't want people to set their expectations too high, ok?
Regards,
V.

Vinny,
We don't expect you to run AmazingCharts. It's just that all of us here appreciate that you take your time to read out posts and comment as to whether or not they are doable. At times I wish it were open source.
I realize Jonathan is extremely busy with his practice and software coding and editing a magazine. I am just hoping that he or maybe through you will see what most of us are wishing for. I can't speak for everyone, but at times I feel as though we are at the wishing well, but no one is collecting the pennies. That was my anology -- pretty bad huh?

I like the sitting outside, waiting for something big, like a new pope and reading the smoke myself. But seriously, as I've said in the past, we all talk amoung ourselves and we end up projecting something onto the situation from our own experiences, frustrations or desires. Meanwhile, we have little real feedback from the mothership as to what is or is not in the pipeline. Now granted they don't have to, but with such a nice captive audience that only wants to pitch in and help or suggest good improvements, it would be nice though.
Lastly I do feel that for those that "beta" test, there should be a separate standard of support and communication. Beta testing does imply a different form of a relationship. It's a more mutual, symbiotic type of relationship and the vendor should recognize it as such. Those that beta test are putting their offices and their data in this case somewhat at risk, and there needs to be an understanding of such. "This is really part of R&D and its related expenses. Plus that we the company/vendor need to be there for these folks if and when beta testing does bite them in the rump or corrupts their data". Many of us have been very helpful, putting up with many glitches, crashes and bumps to the flow of things in our offices in an attempt to be of assistance with the development of this product. In exchange we do get to test drive the lastest release and sometimes have an influence on what does or does not make it into that final product. This type of relationship is always different than that of a regular standard release type customer and always needs to be recognized and supported as such. There should be clearer, cleaner lines of communication between the vendor and the beta site.

Vinny, You shouldn't have to...You are right, it is not your product. And thanks for all that you are doing as an knowledgeable and helpful user. Paul

I think that everyone and not just the moderators should be able to make polls.
The polls could be made more aesthetic by doing away with the title of the poll and the dates of when the poll takes place. This would streamline it.

We have nine votes for yes. Maybe we should consider allowing polls or some other method for members showing support for ideas.

One of the issues for the polls is you have to be logged in before you can vote. That's a problem when sometimes one cannot log in, and many times, I still cannot post without taking extra time to clear cookies a few times. Some days it's not worth it.

Folks, while I like the idea of having the polls, the version of ubbthreads that the board is running is buggy as hell. Polls are messy, and don't always set up correctly, etc.
I think Jon is going to let me upgrade the board to the new version. If once that happens polls actually behave, I'll open it up to everybody who creates a thread to be able to create a poll.
Sorry, though, Barbara - you WILL need to be logged in to vote. It prevents being spammed by outsiders. If you're still having log-in issues contact me by PM and lets see if we can resolve your login issues.
Regards to all,
V.

rainy,
The login issues are frustrating. It doesn't solve the complete problem but try using Firefox. It has worked better for me. I set the boards for my home page.
