Amazing charts needs to have a non-linear workflow. For example if the front office sees a patient, the program forces the person doing vital signs and meds to "assign that patient to a particular doc". The preference in the clinic may be any doc free to see patient. Hence I recommend the following options 1) Assign to a particular doc ( let us say patient says he wants to see doc 1 only...) 2) Assign to any doctor available..( I can see any one who is free) so that when they open the chart the info is easily visible

I suggested that Jon create a shared inbox, similar to the labs inbox, for patients to be forwarded to. This way patients can be forewarded to the shared inbox and any doctor can pull the record. Jon liked the idea but said it would require rewriting some of the messaging system. How do you like that idea?

sounds good. Either a shared in box as you suggest or an open assignment unless restricted by patient. . In a busy office, it is important to have an unimpeded work flow. Otherwise rooms can get clogged with patients.. Imagine if one of the doctors is called to an emergency and is out for 2 hours , the waiting patients have to be re-assigned to someone else.
