I'm currently sending my consult letters and faxes by PC Fax. A great system that is incorporated into many fax machines now. I have the Brother 7840W using a wired connection. I initially considered internet faxing, but this machine solved the problem, plus it eliminates any concern of security as it sends it by regular fax. Pharmacy can document the number by call display as well. As a side note, to eliminate paper in the offer, all faxes come in as tifs, which are then converted to pdf for review. I'm currently utilizing a Fax to eMail service provided by local telephone company. I'm not using the Fax to eMail function of the above machine as I was concerned about a computer screwup and losing faxes and also about the outgoing fax line being tied up. With this system, my fax line is only for sending faxes or making private calls (it's never busy). Any incoming calls, go directly to email.
Anyhow, back to original question. When you send a consult letter by pcFax, how do you document, if any, that it actually was sent. I've considered a few option. (1) have the fax print a confirmation fax and scan that and append to the original doc, (2) fax a cc to your own number and store that, (3) simply print a nightly summary of all faxes outgoing calls and confirmation. If you don't document somehow, I guess one problem could be that you simply forget to fax a doc and it's forgotten on the chart. We used to stamp all outgoing faxes with a "Faxed and date" stamp. What do people do in this situation??? Thanks.
