Can anyone tell me if "iScribe" is compatible with AC?

If by "works" you mean does it allow for the sharing of information such as demographics and prescription information? No it does not.
I am giving I-scribe a try - I have asked them to get in touch with AC, I would strongly suggest AC get in touch with them.
They have offered our office set up with printer, network, PDA's etc at no cost, and they will pull the patient demographic data from our PM system so we don't have to load it manually.
My ulterior motive would be to let THEM do that and somehow get AC to pull the data from i-scribe so I wouldnt have to load it in AC manually! <grin>
I did pass along AC's contact info to their support group yesterday.
You know with any of these companies they are selling your prescribing history data back - that's part of it. If you don't care that's fine, but if you do then you aren't going to get out of it with e-prescribing. Just something to be aware of.

Hi folks,
ANY e-prescribing system other than the one that's tied in to AC would involve a MAJOR rework of AC, so most likely it ain't gonna happen any time soon. The "glue" to make the existing one work is pretty clunky.. but the thing about a dancing bear is not how well it dances, but that it dances at all.
The more technical answer is that the program has to parse HTML pages to figure out where to fill in the blanks on the e-prescribing companies web interface.
I'd LOVE to see the ability to prescribe like we do on paper, but instead of hitting "print" hit "send" and have it go electronic - but I'm not holding my breath.
Sorry,
V.

I hope I don't upset anyone, but I just don't see the benfit at all of electronic prescribing. It seems cheaper, faster, and easier just to fax directly from AC to the pharmacy.

Hi Folks,
One of my projects for early next year is going to be getting the fax server going, so that we in our office can print to fax. I wrote a small patch that puts the patient's preferred pharmacy on the screen when you're writing prescriptions, so that you'll know who to fax to. My thinking is that I'd then hit "print preview" then select the fax server as the printer, pick the pharmacy off the list, and off they'd go.
Is on my after-Christmas "to do" list... and yes, the fax server will be on our Linux server :-) . I've dropped a note to Jon with the suggestion about putting the pharmacy on the prescription page, but haven't heard anything either way.
I much prefer that idea than sending them through a third-party prescribing gateway, for a number of reasons, not the least of which are patient privacy and cost, as while most of these systems are free to the doctor, SOMEONE has to pay for them. Electronic faxing is cheap, effective, and eliminates a middle man that doesn't have any reason to be there.
Regards,
V.

I think the idea of faxing directly from AC may be better than using the eRx companies. For one thing, you only have to input the Rx one time. But you do have to build up your database of pharmacies. May not be a problem in some areas, but in NYC its a pain. We have 3 Duane Reades with 2 blocks (at Least 3). What makes the eRx system we're experimenting with handy is that when the patient asks for their refill they can put the pharmacy on the message. If we choose to refill, it will go straight to that pharmacy.

Once again, I couldn't agree more. I posted here or sent multiple emails to people suggesting two very good, rather inexpensive (for some) fax machines which can do it all. Multitask but, most importantly, send and receive faxes directly from each PC and network. Can't beat it. I am one who used to use RingCentral. Very good, but costly in the end, and it didn't work as well as in house faxing. If you want the names and model numbers of the fax machines, I would be glad to post them again.
Also, another user (can't remember whom) about three months ago posted a really cool fax system where you basically purchased your own fax gate.
