I reconcile my patients medicines at every visit. I like being able to hand them a list when they leave the office.

For several months I have not maintained a med list within AC because I write my scripts electronically. I have not felt secure writing scripts in AC because they are so easily altered.

I have been using the free eprescribing tool through allscripts. It is horrible, but free. Maintaining a med list is difficult because if renewals get used up for a medicine, it falls off the list.

I am still going to send meds through erx, but I am going to go back to ac for the med list. Can anyone give me suggestions on how they use the list? One of my frustration has been the list of the medicines in the drop down list. It seems to me that new meds can't be added to the list although we can handwrite the scripts.

Sorry for rambling, but I have so many really sick patients on lots of medicines and need to keep them straight.

Thanks in advance

I have been doing the other way. I am prescribing with AC, either print out for patients or fax to pharmacy directly. Adding and updating the medicine list in AC is simple. The problem is we may have to type in Allscripts and then update AC again if we use both. I don't know whether Surescripts interface with AC any better.

At this point, I don't see how you can do both. I stick with AC only.

As to the dropdown list, all of these meds are contained in the registry on each computer. They can be changed, but it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Generally, the last script you wrote that was similar will pop up.
