Last suggestions:
1. Uninstall all browsers except I.E. (Easy to reinstall the others and I.E. is not so simple to uninstall.
2. Go Tools > Add Ons > Look in Toolbars and extensions and Search Providers and remove those not needed. There are other more benign settings there as well.
3. Go to Programs and Features and uninstall all programs that appear to be spyware or not needed such as Ask... or whatever
4. Download
www.superantispyware.com (free version), run and remove all results. You may get a lot of PUPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs). Those would be key to remove.
5. Download
www.malwarebytes.com (free version), run and remove all results.
6. Download ccleaner (free version), run the defaults and remove all results (may free up quite a bit of space -- even 3 GBs or so), choose to delete all results.
