Straight wireless for a client/server application usually doesn't work well. You want to do something like a private cloud where you can remote into your server/other desktops. Then you are just streaming the desktop and not doing any computations on the local machine. That means you can get something really cheap like a Chromebook or some other thin client as opposed to a full laptop.
