Hm, I switched them to short names, but that didn't fix it. Then I removed parens from the name (another commonality between the problem cases), and everything started working. Perhaps AC is allergic to parentheses?
Ah well, either way, it works now. I'm pretty confident that it's a bug and not incorrect usage that was causing this, though. Something to look into...
