The time it takes to connect to a website is frequently dependent upon which DNS server you use. Most people get stuck with whatever your IP provider has available. I have found that changing your DNS server IP addresses can speed up the various phases of the script writer.
To find out about the performance of DNS servers available to you I like to use a program from GRC.COM called DNS Benchmark.
It's a very neat free (and small) program written by Steve Gibson. Find it on GRC.COM or Google it. You can run it from your desktop and it will crank away for several minutes and list a large number of DNS servers and put them in order of performance. Also alot of information about DNS servers and security. He has a weekly podcast "Security Now" that is very informative about internet security in general.
