You will be very happy to know that many computer components are recycled today. In fact, the computer chip running your microwave oven is probably from a recycled computer.
While you are quite correct in that the percentage of recycled electronics remains low, I fully expect this to change in the near future as used computers/electronics can be a valuable source of tin, gold, mercury, and other precious metals that we are currently running short on in the US.
