If you want a partial note, either write a note off the front page or an addendum. If you want an unsaved note control S will save or forward to the other person. You just have to keep track of whether it is time to sign or forward back.
It is one extra click to go to preview, but it can be easily done. It is certainly easier than changing the default printer.
I agree with Bert, I don't really see a problem, but I have adapted to doing it this way a long time ago so everyone is somewhat different.
