Word and Excel will always be slow no matter what application there are in. They are just slow to open because of Microsoft.
As far as speed, to give you an idea, in V3, it would take about 3 to 4 seconds for a patient's chart to open, where in V4, it takes about a second. The script writer opens up much more quickly as well.
