My wife scans using scansnap software - it shows up i a window - while in AC she is in pt that needs filing and hits import from file - brings up that area and imports - she knows the last one on the screen and just imports.
When I watch her do it I note how fast it is -- she has done a lot and it is really easy. If you buy a twain scanner you can control in the AC software, but some people say you can't set features like you can with the scanner's software.
