Benjamin is exactly right. The only thing I will add that may help is to make sure you put in a quick subject line. When I send messages to my staff at night, I have tried to make it a habit to write things like "lab results" or "MRI" so it makes sense to the recipient and makes it easier to sort out the message when you look for it in the past encounters tab.
My staff is way better at it than I am.
