I believe the way to do that is to select the patient from the 'patient list', click the red paper-clip to bind the pt to a message, enter a message documenting the phone call, then click 'save to chart.' Thus, next time you open the pt chart you will be able to see that a message had been taken, as it will pop up when you open the chart and appear in the past encounters tab.
