I noted in another thread regarding this RxNow--a electronic prescription program that is apparently FREE. There were some who felt this was a sales pitch by ALLSCRIPTS to give the free eRx and then hook physicians into purchasing their EMR. I sent an e-mail to eRx and recieved the following response.

" Good afternoon Dr Gondo,
The eRx NOW data can be exported in a standard format for import into any other EMR or clinical system at no cost. The vendor of that system may charge you to import that data but the export is free.
eRx Now is not a sales pitch, in fact Allscripts is only one of many vendors that have come together to make this offering. The initiative was created to facilitate the adoption of the eRx solution throughout the country (which will improve quality and reduce costs). In the event that a user of eRx Now wishes to upgrade their software to include more than e-prescribing Allscripts would love to offer our product lines to them, but eRx is and will remain free."

In fact, it appears the it's competitor, Surescripts, and an assortment of unrelated associations and firms are joining into the venture. If what is quoted is true, can Jon or someone from AC a seemless link to the free eRx so that we can have eRx as a part of AC?

eRx looks like a good program - it would be great if Amazing Charts could find an affordable and workable solution to integrate with this. I am interested in seeing if it works better than SureScrips - tried it and had poor luck with Amazing Charts - part of that is because I live in a rural community and it did almost all of my scrips by fax instead of truly electronic.

I will watch this post to see if it can become a reality.

I followed up on the eRx NOW suggestion. Have just gotten an email from them that I can join their "early adopter" group.

But...

The e-prescribing module is truly free (at least, as of now), but patients have to be added manually. If you want the "interface", which will automate to an unspecified degree the interaction between your PM/EHR apllication and eRx NOW, it'll cost $295 plus 19.95 a month (and I'm inferring that's a minimum cost; they have some additional qualifying language referring to practice size, etc.).

Has a definite bait and switch flavor that is making me quite leery of proceeding with these guys.

Since this option no longer seems free, I'm looking for some user feedback on the Sure Scripts option within AC. There have been a couple of allusions to difficulties. Is it integrated into AC or free-standing? There is a competitor called RxNT, which seems a little less expensive, but which is not integrated into AC.

Thanks.

Robert,
I got the same email and made similar conclusions. For now, I think I will just stick with faxing scripts which is working out very well for me.

I just performed my first prescription on eRxNow. It does have a superior medication database. I don't know if Amazingcharts can link with eRxNow. Without a link, it wouldn't be worth the double entry.

It would be nice if Amazingcharts could have a universal memory for each provider so that certain diagnosis is linked with frequently prescribed medication. There's a lot that can be learned from how eRxNow works in helping make Amazingcharts software save time for providers.
