Wow! The new forum shows that we have 1 registerd user, 2 Guests, and 4 SPIDERS online this morning.

Hello Spiders! Where is your office?

Go look for email addresses to spam somewhere else, Spiders.

You know the "who's online" is not perfect. I have never figured out how to get out from our office without needing to log in twice. When I log in from home all is well. At the office I log in, then log in again and it says welcome, and reveals any PM's I have, and it lets me post, but does not show me as online, only as a guest, (or maybe a spider?)
On the way home from Branson we determined that my son Brandon has some issues about spiders!

DocM,
I'm not gonna tell ya straight up as when Bert had that "Ah Ha" saw the light moment and figured out the curse and ghost of the "Double Log-In" he made us wait days for a solution while we all begged for the answer and guessed to no avail as to what the solution might have been.

But take heart, there is a solution and if you do a proper search you will find some enlightenment and the answer to your quest my son....

If not I'm sure Bert won't mind a little more groveling in exchange for an answer.... whistle

Polishing up the old shotgun for me Bert???

After the users' conference, I realized I needed to put more time and energy into getting the board working correctly:

I've upgraded the board to the latest version.

I contacted their tech support and they told me why the double log in issue happened (seems I set the board to "think" it is at amazingcharts.com/ub instead of www.amazingcharts.com/ub - which made it redirect itself after logging in). Anyway, it should be fixed now (though I wonder if now folks who had bookmarked the former site now have to double log in themselves)?

The Who's Online and other dynamic "islands" (as they are called), are cached and updated every 10 minutes or so - hence the delay in updating/changing the data.

Hopefully the board is easier to read now, and easier to use. It is obvious that the board is much more of a critical resource than I realized, and we will commit the resources and time to getting it working correctly.

Jon

Hi Jon,
Yes good to hear from you. And yes this board (great thing, and thumbs up for it) is where this whole social network, Ipod, Apple like community you now have surrounding your product has grown from. You are a very lucky man to have such a positive "vibe" and to have this "thing" buzzing around your product and probably this board is half the reason. Now it is my belief that the product itself is the other half of the reason. If AC were a dog then we would probably come here to bitch more than talk and share lots of good info and positive thoughts. Really it's both. Most other businesses in any sector of the free market would give their right arm or first born to have the kind of buzz and social reputation you have here. You truely are a very lucky man, although again the product you designed certainly has earned you at least half of the great buzz. Take good care of that buzz. It is a rare and beautiful thing in such a crowded busy modern market.

The guys from the conference came home saying that you understand to tweak and improve AC without killing her with too much bloat and hard to learn features. In the end she still has to work day to day, and still be that, play with it for a day or two and you'll never want to let it go product that you so properly got so right! Polish her, feed her well, tweak her, help her grow, but please keep the faith. Thanks so much for you committment to your product and therefore each and everyone of us.

Good see you hanging around and to hear from you too...

Paul and Nancy

Thanks for explaining the cache. I always wondered why I wasn't online, when I was online. An Aside, the users forum was a major influence in my deciding to go with AC.

@Jon, not sure how much ribbing to give you since I am not used to talking to you on the boards. But, we solved this problem on November 19, 2007. In what was probably the greatest day in AC board history, the post below was born. (excerpt). No more double logins. Maybe even more importantly, no more cookie issues as they crumbled into cyberspace and the infamous "Firewall" error message came up to haunt you just before you lost your five paragraph thread. This was particularly daunting for Paul who tends to write more than a sentence or two. Many of us learned to copy our post before sending. smile

I do think that November 19 will be declared National Amazing Charts Userboard Single Login Day.

I have been on line for several hours. I have logged on by a new shortcut that does indeed show me as logged on immediately (no double log in)but the 'who's on line' doesn't show me in the forum. I also logged out then logged in again and that also has failed to show me 'in the house'. Oh well, I will remain an effective lurker!

Strike out the above, now I show on line! go figure..

I believe it is a small piece of automated code (possibly also call a "bot")that crawls the web looking for email addresses so that spammers can send you random adds to buy something to increase your mojo.

Wayne is correct. This is why when you write your email address anywhere online (except in forms, etc.) you have to write it in code, usually like this:

badams_remove AT riverviewpediatrics.org Then you would know to remove the _remove part and change the AT to @, but hopefully the spider will be clueless. Which for now in the techno Internet world, she is.

Our spiders are pretty tame on the User Board -- If you click the words "Who's Online", it will show you the names of the spiders, and it is usually Yahoo, or Google spiders.

I wonder if those spiders are actually users or guests not being recognized correctly. Last night I thought I was one of those spiders, since although I was logged in, I did not show up anywhere, and if I recall correctly one of the spiders was checking out who was online at the same time I was.

I think as Brian says, they are from major search engines crawling around categorizing pages. Then again, my guess is these web crawlers wouldn't take that much time.

We are, I did some sort of a web search in an MS search for a topic like CCHIT and the first thing I got was myself!! Top of the list here at the board. I was floored. Perhaps we are moving up and getting noticed. With the ties to that othe healthcare blog and emrupdate and other more major things, we just might be starting to take on a life of our own. Now that would be cool.....
