Prior to purchasing AC, I was told it should run with a VPN. My IT person set up a CISCO PIX firewall VPN and AC won't work from my laptop at my 2nd office location. AC tech's tell me that dont know why. I had a 2nd IT guy come in, he set a tracer and found that AC runs from Port 445 and opened up the port but had to set up a virtual driver (I think? I hate computers) Anyways, eventhough AC runs from the laptop, it takes 5-7 minutes just to load it and runs at a snail's pace. AC techs can't help. I had to load Remote Admin and purchase a 2nd computer so that I could log in on one computer while my receptionist is on another. Anyone try a VPN not the XP VPN? HELP!!! I've been told by several IT engineers that the XP VPN is unstable and not secure enough for vital information such as patient's charts with the info in their demographics, especially. I would really appreciated any input. Thank you.

Hi there,
quick question. Are you the only doc at that remote or second site so nobody else really needs to chart or have access to AC? If so once Jon and his folks iron out the kinks in the new Sync feature you can take your laptop off site and chart and Sync it back up with the database the next time the laptop returns to the main office and it's mothership/server. Right now the Sync is only on the new 3.5 beta release if that's your cup of tea. It's going to be a great feature for folks who like to work at home, or like my wife, who still does a few housecalls. But if you've got staff at this remote site and they too need to have more than one computer running then Sync won't be of much help to you. We're dying to try it out, but Sync must be done right and in proper sequence from what I understand of it or you can screw things up. Jon and his team are trying to de-bug now. Then I hope they will release detailed instructions to us all. Hope that helps a bit...

We manage this by having AC run on a MS Server 2003 with Terminal Services. I maintain 5 TS CALs which support 5 workstations at the second location. Good access to the program (and the other functions I maintain on the server). The only remaining technical glitch is getting to the printers at the second office from the server.

Just for fun, tried running AC locally at the second office with a VPN tie back to the AC database on our main server. Incredibly slow and quickly gave that up.

I have been using AC from remote sites by using LogMeIn Free (commercial VPN). I am in discussion of having someone from India perform my transcriptions directly into Amazingchart from my server through LogMeIn. I send my transciprition via encrypted .WAV file. They type up the note via partially complete chart notes and forward the note for my sign-off.

I tried using Microsoft XP Pro VPN initially and it just doesn't seem to work.

Robert,

Remote printing is pretty easy to set up. You can either use printers that support IPP (Internet Print Protocol) and route port 631 through your router to the printer or have your remote computer share the printer on the VPN, and have the computer back at the main office running MS server print to that printer.

In our office our servers are running Linux, and we route port 631 to our linux server, running a print server, that allows us multiple remote printers between offices. The linux server handles forwarding the print job to the appropriate printer on the internal network.
