I decided to try UpDox which is a document managing program - it works great. It lets the user take piles of scanned documents and breaks them up into pages - then you can tag whichever page you want (or many of them for a multipage document) and then it has a link to move them directly to the imported items on the corresponding Amazing Charts File. Seems to be much more effective than using the TWAIN button in Amazing Charts - especially if like me you have a ScanSnap scanner (non-twain). Also works for online fax services and I am experimenting with setting up a fax server so it can do the same for all my incoming faxes - the developer (Dr. Andrew Barbash) is easily reached and loves his product (reminds me a lot of Jon).

I actually was originally told about this by Jon and just downloaded it - easy to install and seems to work great. I downloaded a free to try version at www.updox.com (choose the UpDox EMR version).

Question: How much is this neat little program? Also, Perhaps I missed it, but where is the "free trial" download? Thanks

It has an area to download software - I actually contacted the developer on the Contact Us area and he sent me back the link to download. He said that the current price is $99.00 and $5.00 per month. He also said that Jon was working on integrating into the Amazing Charts Pricing structure and make it like the electronic scrips, etc - he said they plan on keeping it real affordable. He also said that after downloading the version without paying that it was basically on the honor system to pay and register for the service.

Found the new download button. Seems like the price went up to $20/month (a 400% increase in a month). I'm having trouble setting it up as it requires a e-mail account (?). I don't think neither my POL mail or Hotmail uses STMP or POP protocols. Does this program work on a peer-to-peer network or do I have to get 2003 Servers with upgrades to Windows XP pro for this software to work?
It's also not clear to me if this is an ASP application?

Took some time but figured out how to sent FAXed items directly into import section of Amazingcharts. Updox is amazing in that it integrates several features on this one software
PDF printer,
Microsoft Outlook,
Paperport,
E-mail,
electronic FAX server.

I've read that it can also act as a pager, answering service, and secure encrypted e-mail communication with patients. Although there is several useful tutorial and in general intuitive, there is a steep learning curve and it takes me time to learn each functionality.

More on UpDox and Onebox (cost, features, install bugs) in the "Faxing Prescriptions" discussion.
