I would like to use my practice logo for my Avatar-is there a way to add it?

E-mail Vinny Meyer:
meyerv "AT" meyerandmalin.com
Also tell him you want the preferences on "Tips & Tricks" and "Helpful Downloads" to be set where you can see posts for a full year by default (right now only the past three months are visible).
Also, tell him we want to be notified if there are any posts in a thread we post to, by default.
Don't tell him that Bert or I sent you or he will think we are nagging.

OK.. to the group.. do you want me to enable uploadable avitars?
To do this I have to enable it and make sure that there is directory space on the server to store them. Unfortunately our user board is not hosted in-house, or space wouldn't be an issue.
If there's demand for this, I'll do it.

It would be nice but if it is going to cost Jon an arm and a leg to add server space or bandwidth I'm not sure it is really worth it....

It isn't a cost or bandwidth issues, it's a disc space issue. Fortunately, avitars are small, but adding them for 2000 users would be a goodly chunk of space. If only 20-30 really want them, can enable them and it's fairly small.
I'd ask that if I enable this that they all be pre-scaled to the size displayed (in other words, keep the actual file sizes small)

Yeah, I think it would be cool to have uploadable avatars. Also, I don't know if I mentioned it before , but we need "Tips & Tricks" and "Helpful Downloads" to be set where you can see posts for a full year by default (right now only the past three months are visible). If you have to set all the forums that way, I still think it would be better than the current situation, because people keep asking a lot of the same questions repeatedly, and it is hard to explain to them how to display the old posts. Also, is it possible that we could be notified if there are any posts in a thread we post to, by default?

OK Campers.. here's the deal.
We now have uploadable avitars. Size is limited to 10,000 bytes. Size is 80x80 pixels. I THINK it's configured right. I do not have low-level access to the server to create a dedicated avitar directory, so they're going into the general upload/download directory on the server.
All avitars are to be in good taste, etc. If it gets out of hand I'm switching it back (although we ARE all professionals here, so I shouldn't worry..)
Have fun, play nice, and lets see everybody's picture or alternate ego pic.
BEFORE EVERYBODY uploads.. would ONE PERSON please try this and post either "it works" or "it doesn't" ?

LOL.. I'm working on it!
Seems there are some glitches in this version of the board. For one, it's NOT supposed to allow anonymous posting, and someone reported anonymous posts appearing. I checked the settings, guest posting is disabled.
I'm requiring people keep a valid e-mail address in their profile. The little drive-by shooting by Brandon from Medtuity kinda shows that trolls can register with no e-mail info, homepage, or verifiable info, drop their little missive, and disappear at will. His profile lists no email address and no homepage. I DO have his info in my email files, but for now I'm going to ingnor him, other than the reply I posted earlier. Requiring a working e-mail for active members should limit drive by B.S., although making up nonsense e-mail addresses isn't hard. The forum is set to send verify e-mails to people before enabling, and I set the board to now route all new member requests through moderation before enabling them.
I don't know why it's only showing 3 months of posts - the settings aren't set to delete anything. Notification that a thread you're following has been updated unfortunately requres manually setting things to be watched. One possibility is to use the RSS feed feature to a newsreader applet, so new posts pop up as they happen, even if you don't have the board opened.
So we made some progress today.

The posts aren't being deleted. You just have to go to the bottom of the page and tell it to display the last 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, or all posts. It is defaulting to display three months. For example, click on Tips and Tricks, then scroll all the way to the bottom and there's a box entitled "display options". BTW, don't think I don't appreciate you working on this. And I hope you don't have cause to regret the custom avatars!

For anybody else who wants to do this, here is a neat online utility: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/create-avatar/Go to this website, upload your picture, and set the avatar size to 80, and it shrinks your picture to the proper avatar size for this User Board. Then, you come back to the User Board, look under "My Profile" and upload your pic.

Alternately, you can right-click on one of your personal pictures, select open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager, click on Edit Pictures, then Resize.

Dave, you ornery thing! Quit trying to pick a fight with the newbies! Upload your avatar and let's see how amazing you are! (Caught the Grier/Milland reference there, BTW). LOL!

Amazing Dave, wasn't he that generalist athlete, olympic swimmer or track guy, who got his 10 minutes of fame back in the blow dried days???? I'm not just busting on you, wasn't that the guy? I swear it is. I have always thought of that guy whenever I see your posts... Sorry, but it's the truth... But hey if she's gonna post her logo, I think I may just have to post ours... It's real good for a family practice. I even wear embroidered golf shirts with our logo on them... Just can't do the shirt and tie thing every day...

Yea Vicki! I knew you were a good sport. Bonus points to Brian for knowing "The Man With Two Heads", probably the worst special effects movie ever.

Again, here's my method -
Google Images -> save image and open with Microsoft Office Picture Manager -> Edit Pictures -> Custom Width and Height -> 80x80 pixels (compress if needed).
