So I'm setting up a new VM for AC. AC now has a policy need appointment and $500 paid service to do just credential a new host.

I told them I have a perfect backups and can do the rest myself. Nope, $500 and appointment reqiured.

We are paid customers with license and clearly should not be charged $500 just to install the software where we choose to.

Anyone with a work around? Is this a new policy that we should expect maximum revenue extraction from us using this legacy product?

They locked AC down a few years ago and you need a password to transfer the data to a new database. They were not charging before so this is new. Doyou already have a database and setting up a second? Do you pay for support or just AC?

I do not understand why a company would do something like this to repeat customers. I think it is all a push for us to go to the cloud.

Maybe.
I think it is a push to get us off AC altogether and on to a different Harris EMR.

Whatever the reason, it is unconscionable.

The support techs try hard and want to help you. It's just a business policy. Paid AC support for some 10 years.

In their defense it was a complicated install I couldn't have done it myself. Need to manually download and install SQL 2016 express, enable .net 3.5., install msmxl file and crystal report. Then needed to do some massaging to the 11.1.4 installer and run it a few times. But, if they made a better installer probably would make this self-service?

The credentialing part was technical and a bit complex but that requirement was created by themselves.

Lessons, install on a VM. Back it up. Keep it clean - just AC no domain controller other software. So it is pristine and lasts a long time.

Use 2019 not older version of server so your AC VM server will last a long time. You or your computer person can move a VM without credentialing.

1. A business policy that should make them go under if they follow through with it -- haven't dealt with that so hard to know
2. The whole idea of their doing it is the credentialing HAS to be done by them, and it isn't hard for them
3. Not sure why you wouldn't need/want a domain controller
4. We were going to use 2019 and it worked, but we went back to 2016 because 2019 wasn't TECHNICALLY supported.
5. A VM should be considered its own computer so no new credentialing, but it is moving to another computer so who knows given it has to use that computer's hardware. Should work though.

You can mark my words on this one. If I were forced to go to another computer and needed credentialing and it were going to be $500, I would move to another EMR. $100 maybe. $500 that is crazy.

Yes DC, just try to put it on a separate VM from AC server.

So there is a loophole. Included support is for "crashes" and problems with your existing server. Again techs are very happy to fix stuff.

So moving/installing AC to a new computer or VM without a "crash" is additional fee service. But reconstructing AC server after a problem or crashed server is included. So maybe the old server met an untimely demise. Thankfully your perfect backups are ready to go.
