Hi everyone,
Every July we do this fund raising thing to offset a little bit of the cost of the board. The hosting fee isn't too bad, but Ruben who provides support for the site needs to be paid something. Remember AC's board with all the SPAM and poor design. It usually averaged being about two versions behind.
It is pretty obvious how to donate. It is at the top right.
Thanks.

Done! If you benefit from this board, I would suggest a contribution.

And just a reminder... this board is not run by AC. It is not AC. If you are irritated with AC for some reason, that is NOT a reason to withhold a contribution here. In fact, it is a reason that you SHOULD contribute.

Just donated.
This forum has been absolutely invaluable over the years.
Thanks again to Bert for resurrecting it, and to Ruben for supporting it. Thanks especially for the experience, expertise, and willingness to help provided by so many members.

Thanks for all the donations so far. Just to give Ruben a plug. When AC announced that they were shutting down their board, we had about seven days to get this forum up and running. Getting the forum up and running in seven days was easy. CAPTURING ALL THE DATA FROM THE OLD BOARD AND MOVING IT TO THE NEW BOARD WAS THE HARD PART. But, Ruben pulled it off. I can't recall exactly, but I think the very next day the AC server was shut down.

Thanks for the reminder. Didn't realize it was a year since my last donation. I have to say, using a 7-year old version of AC, I expect and receive zero support from AC itself, so this forum is especially valuable to our practice.

@Kurt,
If I may ask, why are you on such an old version of Amazing Charts?

Hi JamesNT, I will copy/paste from my reply to another recent thread: We still use v8.3 (we've used AC since v1/beta...) as we really didn't want to have to require assistance with every change in hardware in order to proceed without interruption. Also, in our situation we're better off with the bugs we know rather than the bugs we don't. But we have to use a Windows 7 computer for the server, as AC v8 does not work with Win10 as server (keeps dropping connections). This is okay for the time being, as we have paid for continuing Windows security updates, but if we were not going to retire in a couple of years, we would look for something else.

OK, I don't generally do this, but here are the results of the fund drive so far. Each year, we look to have donations to offset the price of the forum and to pay Ruben a little something to reward him for being the support for the board. Support entails a lot of things including handling malware protection, spammers, continually updating the look for the board, being around to answer questions, moving questions from one thread to another and, most importantly, keeping the board on the correct version.
Not sure if everyone was aware but AC was generally behind by at least three versions. It was part of the reason the board got hacked twice. Once tons of emails were stolen. The other time, the whole board was lost. My guess is that only the older users such as Wendell would remember.
There are only two ways to set up donations on the forum. To leave it open so that you can donate from $1.00 to whatever, say $200; or you can set a fixed price. We have never left it open because one or two people would probably get generous and send in way too much. So, it is set on $50. The goal is $350 to cover the hosting of the board along with the secure domain name and paying Ruben with what is left over.
Currently, 11 people have donated. That is $550 meaning Ruben will so far get $200. I hope we can get him a little more.
There are seven more days in the month. I very much appreciate the 11 who have donated so far, but there are far more users on the board. Please do not get me wrong. The board is super helpful and it is worth it to me even if I weren't reimbursed.
Thanks.

Only 11 donations? One of the main reasons for staying with AC over the years has been this valuable user board, which for many users has been life-saving as well as fascinating and a unique social outlet. Loss of this board would be further evidence that there has been such a profound shift in the world view of physicians that the transformation of Mediical Practice into "Healthcare" has been complete, and is devastating to our entire society.
The United States ranks near the bottom of all "advanced" countries in terms of longevity and most health outcomes, and far ahead of all of them in terms of per capita cost. This is not a record to be proud of, and is the result of corporatization and commodification of medical care -- most starkly chaaractrized by the development of massive, disruptive EHR systems that serve only to benefit corporate administrators, and function as silos to isolate physicians from their patients and each other.
Gone is any semblance of a physician community.

Hopefully others will donate. I wonder how many practices are using AC that are not familiar with the forum???? The link under Help shows Amazing Charts Community Board but when tapped does not bring you here, instead it goes to a dead URL. Would be nice if AC would link to here with the disclaimer of "leaving a Harris Website" or something

I have thought about that. But, I wonder given this board is independent of AC and thus gives us more freedom to speak freely....
This would be a great question for Jon S. because he is really good with this stuff.

I don't know how good I am with this, but that doesn't stop me from chiming in! In theory, it would be a great idea for the AC/Harris website to have a prominently featured link to this forum. The same goes for a link within the AC program. I would even settle for a well hidden but functional link. Unfortunately, the lack of existence of one is not an accident. AC/Harris could make it clear that you are "leaving AC/Harris and going to a different website". They could make it clear that we are independent when posting the link. To do so, they would have to acknowledge that we are a helpful resource... an asset to the company. They have not seen it that way since Jon Bertman left. (Of course, I strongly disagree with that view. I suspect we all do). We could approach them again about this, but we have done so in the past and they were not interested. Under "Help" on all of our AC "home pages" are several choices. The link for "AC Community Board" is dead, as noted above. It is below the link to "View Future Enhancements" which, when clicked, takes you to the Version 10.1 release notes . Nestled between the two is the "Recommend improvements" link; the one we are encouraged to use for suggestions to management about the program. What message does it send that the place that is supposedly closely monitored for our suggestions sits between a years outdated link to "future enhancements" and a dead link to this board?

OK, for the first time, we are extending the donations through the beginning of August. In order to reach the goal of covering the hosting and covering the small payment to Ruben, we need 16 donations. So far, we have 13 (which includes two donations by Jon Bertman).
So, we will keep it open for the next couple of days.

So, if you are tired of seeing the Donate button at the top right, one person can remove it. Just need one more donation to reach the goal. Would be our best month ever but shouldn't really take over a month.
Thanks to all those who donated. Ruben really tries to make sure this forum is top notch.

So, the fund drive is over. We were only $50.00 from the goal. Thanks to everyone who donated.
