SureScripts has made a resolution to change the word tablet to ablet. This is exciting news and should save us all maybe 3 to 4 hours a month.

Huh? Makes sense, but I'd rename to xablet and zapsule should cover 99% of my rxs. One letter typed uniquely designates form. (no other uom under x/z)

Or maybe zapsulet meaning tablet or capsule i dont' care which!

99% of the time I use a) tablet, b) capsule, or c) milliliter

I need to get tablet further up the list. Renaming it ablet would make it number one.

Maybe we can work something out. All kidding aside, I do think it would be cool if we could move them so that the first two were capsule and tablet with the third being milliliter.

I also think it is funny that they don't use the plural. I write for capsules far more often than one capsule.

AGREE! I would take either way to make it easier/faster! AC used to be about less clicks, the UOM is frustrating. Capsule vs capsules doesn't matter as long as you meet the government standards, ugghhh

I have a feeling that AC can't change this. It is likely all SureScripts and just set in stone. But, really, Gallon?

Hi everyone,

Maybe I am missing something, but I do not use the drop-down list. I just type "TAB" or "CAP" or "MIL" into the box, and then select "tablet" or "capsule" or "milliliter"

Really does not take much time at all.

It is a testament to the idiocy of EMR's (sorry, AC, and any friends I still have left there) that we are even talking about this.

We are literally talking about the time it takes to COPY the UOM from the Rx field - WHERE IT ALWAYS ALREADY APPEARS AFTER THE MEDICATION NAME AND DOSE - into the UOM field.
Why? Because some dolt somewhere says we should. And some other person hasn't bothered to fix the issue.
Is it hard to do this mindless copying? No. It takes only a couple of seconds.
Except that thousands of us are wasting those seconds, dozens of times a day.
It is infuriating! It is literally the opposite of my longstanding motto, "Reduce needless clicks".

Anyway... the process of putting in the UOM efficiently involves two hands. You can't easily do it with one.
I tab to the field, type "t" with my left hand and with my right hand on the mouse, hit the down arrow and select tablet and let go.

That works quickly for me, but yeah, it pisses me off anytime I let myself think about it.

I am always surprised in the number of things that can actually be ePrescribed. Now I am wondering what you would prescribe a gallon of? (Baby formula? I honestly don't know).

As for the UOM, yes this is frustrating. I had added a development ticket for this when everyone first reported it after the upgrades went out. I haven't heard too much on this since, so I sent a message to Chris C about it. Just checking to see if it is a viable option based on the new regulation. I will respond when I hear back, if I have any news that I can share.

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope everyone had a good holiday.

Thanks Mark for the update.

GI guys would use gallon......

DOCGene, not a lot of work but still time consuming

JBS....I agree

I think this was some stupid federal mandate for prescriptions but not sure.

So I heard back from Chris C. Here is what he said.

"We would never be able to extract the UOM from a description consistently, but if it’s part of the drugs metadata they select we should be able to fill it in. So for the immediately future there is nothing we can do about this but we are aware of it and will look into this process in a future update”

Basically we might be able to do this, but we have to take a closer look at the actual meta-data behind the drugs to see if UOM is part of that. If so, mapping could be done. If its not, then we might not be able to do this.

That's all the info I have as of right now.

Can you put the bug in the programmer ear to make it where we could at least set things as favorites? Tablet at the top, capsule second, Gallon third.......as an example!

Can they make it where when you do get say TABLET in the UOM you can hit enter for it to go to the next spot (refills)? Right now you have to use the TAB key or the mouse to move to the next blank space.

Thanks for pushing for an answer, Mark.

Even though it is an answer that is disappointing, to say the least.
For multiple reasons.

Anyone know of a way to edit the 'expand favorites' medication list?

It supposedly cannot be edited by users. It changes based on your most frequently selected sigs for that medication.

Well, I would rather capsules and tablets be at the end and everything else be out of alphabetical order if I could see what pharmacy (and location) the medication is going to once it has been put in the last step.

Thanks JBS , that is what I thought but couldn't remember, hoping I ihad missed something.

Bert, not sure I like that compromise but I would like to have a second chance at changing the pharmacy. I appreciate the way we can change when preparing the script but a second chance would be icing on the cake!

It's still in negotiation so I think you are safe, lol. smile Would be nice to see it at the first step too, not just change it. I mean the whole pharmacy name and address. I am getting better with the store numbers.

Happy New Year! You guys all know that we do this intentionally just to make your lives miserable right? So we looked at it and with what we have to work with today it's not possible to just pull from the description..there are far too many variables in play here and if we defaulted to the incorrect UOM it get rejected at SS..They're very strict about this with us and we get graded. That said. we do store the UOM in all your favorites which we assumed, possibly mistakenly, would be a majority of your scripts. There is no easy way today for us to match a drug to a UOM in the form we receive from Newcrop today. We'll find a way to fix it but it just won't be in the next release..i need more time.

We also made the search as simple as we could where you just start typing Tab, cap etc ..and the list narrows...You sill have to click and select it. I agree it could be better but we did the best we could at the time.

In the meantime we can control the order in which the UOM appears in the drop down. we actually are supposed to display the most frequent measures up top but that doesn't appear to be working correctly so we'll get that fixed....Here are the ones we had tagged that should be at the top order...

Capsule
Gram
Kit
Lozenge
Milliliter
Packet
Suppository
Tablet

Then it starts over with Ampule and they are all alphabetical. You make a suggestion of what the order should be and I'll make that happen in the next release. They'll all be on the same front page so you won't have to scroll so we don't have to get into the line by line detail but I'll do the best we can to accommodate

Thanks Chris for getting back to us, good to see you here with Mark. My suggestion would be to move tablet up. I would suggest Capsule, milliliter and tablet to be the top 3. I am in family practice and hope others will chime in. Thanks for reading, being able to hit the enter key after choosing the UOM would be an improvement, hopefully that can be done easily.

Carl, always like the humor of Dilbert comics
