Busted, You have no idea what a day and what a night I have yet to come. Look under problems in a few minutes for an idea of my nightmare. This mean you too Bert, fellow Trend user... Anyway here are a few links... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...289-8BD1-EB966BCDFB5E&displaylang=enhttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=832671I'm hoping to hear or talk to tech in the next day or two about this service pack thing while discussing my internet security issues.... What a half a week it's been so far...

Heard both good and bad about SP3 - I personally am going to download it, burn the disks, and wait and see before I install the silly thing to make sure it hasn't blown up anybody's systems.

I burned the iso as well. It's really not worth the install actually after looking at it more. It's basically an update which has AlL the previous updates and adds a bit of functionality to some security features. Otherwise, it's not worth it.

Why is everyone still hung up on XP Pro? Go Vista Business Edition. I know I'm in a minority, and I write this message sort of tongue in cheek. However, Vista Business really does work well. SP1 has been made available and fixed a lot of the incompatibility issues. Go ahead Bert, I'm waiting for you to go off on me....XP Pro is sooooo much better.....blah blah blah. <<JOKING>>

I am still using XP because:
1.Vista is not compatible with Quickbooks which I use for payroll and bookkeeping 2.XP is faster 3.XP network didn't recognize the computer with Vista 4.Vista was not compatible with my Brother network fax

This may not be helpful, and I can't speak from first hand experience at least wit Quickbooks, but I will give a little info on each. Again, apricot has the firsthand experience. 1. http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/Vista/ProductCompatibility.aspx#1Most Quickbook products will work with Vista. Many people forget about the ability to set compatibility modes on products. If you right click on a product icon, you can change the compatibility mode and make it run as if it were in a different OS. 2. XP can be faster. However, VISTA can smoke if set up correctly. You MUST have 2 GBs of RAM. If you are going to run Aero, you need a video card that will work with it, but it does take up resources. If using Aero, I would suggest up to 3 GBs of RAM. I just bought 4 GBs for $75 yesterday. It is dirt cheap. 3. I am confused by this one. I have run VISTA as a test machine on my XP Pro network with no issues. 4. Again, I can't speak to this one, but have you tried the latest Vista drivers. It most likely wouldn't work with the XP drivers. Here are the latest drivers for Vista and Brother. http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/windowsvista/us.htmlHTH Just fuel for the fire.

I would stay away from XP SP3 for now. MS has pulled this thing off the shelf once before. My understanding is that some AMD based systems are having problems with this update and patches are available. http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1403George K. Fahnbulleh

George, Thanks for the warning there. What have you heard in terms of us "all Intel" offices? Is this just a bad SP in general or just for the AMD crowd? Thanks again....

Bert, Unfortunately Quickbook 2006 doesn't run with Vista, even in XP compatibility mode. I called Intuit, they said, 2006 payroll function is not compatible with Vista, must update to Quickbook 2007. You are right, there are Brother drivers for Vista, and it is possible to buy extra RAM, but it sounds like lots of extra work for what purpose? Would it increase my collections? Or make my work easier? If not, I better wait...

HockeyRef, I am not an XP guy. I moved ALL my user systems to Vista Ultimate last year. My best advise is "image your system" install the sp and if you don't like it, go back to the image!

G, Understood, and thank-you. FYI, the newest computers we just purchased came with the duel license with XP installed and it's back-up media, and media and license for Vista Business. I'm just concerned about Vista not playing nice with our older programs and hardware. But either as Vista finally grows up and learns how to play nice with others, or our software and hardware age out we will slowly make the change that is coming.
It's a shame that MS couldn't respect it older fairly loyal users with a product that could play well across this divide. Thanks again....
