Hi everyone,

Will Amazing Charts, either 10.0.2 which I am using now, or v 11 which will be upcoming, run on Window Server 2019 Standard?

Thanks.

Ironically within 10 minutes of posting I got this response from AC:

"Hello Eugene,
This is Brandon from Amazing Charts Technical Support. I am reaching out regarding your questions about the compatibility of Server 2019. Server 2019 works but has its bugs with Amazing Charts. Not enough testing has been done with AC and Server 2019 at this time. Our cloud servers currently operate on Server 2016 and function fine. Version 11 is currently in beta and is being further tested with Server 2016. I would suggest using 2016 at this point in time if you need a new server, or if you plan to upgrade keep in mind if you utilize 2019 you may experience some issues as it has not been tested to the fullest. At this time I am unsure the estimated release date of version 11 as baseline for the latest version. If you have any further questions please feel free to ask. Otherwise, have a great rest of your day!

Best Regards,
Brandon"

Use 2019. I would not get three years behind because of waiting on AC. Besides, I use 2019 and AC works find.

I just received a suggestion to purchase Server 2019, but set up a Server 2016 virtual machine and put Amazing Charts on that.

This may be the way to go.

Is AC didn't work with 2019, then that would be a great idea. But, it does.

It does work for you? Or it will work on every server with every network?

I played around with both versions (Essentials 2016 and Essentials 2019) as VMs from the Microsoft Evaluation Center.

I found server 2019 more restricted than 2016. I would stick with 16 for now because they removed many of the most useful features:

"With the release of Server 2019 Essentials, the end of an era has been reached.
Gone are the wizards and tools designed for the small business owner.
Gone is the Remote Web Access feature.
Gone is the Essentials Connector.
Gone is Client PC Backup.
Gone is Office 365 Integration.
Gone, is the Dashboard.
Gone, indeed, is the Essentials Role.

All that remains of Essentials, is the name Essentials and the licensing limits of the Essentials SKU, of 25 client access licenses.
What we are presented with, is now more in line with Windows foundation server from several years ago."

(from https://windowsserveressentials.com/2018/09/06/introducing-windows-server-2019-essentials/ )

If all you want is a server to host AC and none of the other real "server" functions in a simple fashion, it may be fine.
But if you want an integrated essentials server, stick to 2016. You could always host AC on another VM with windows and keep the essential server services on separate VM.
It really depends on what you want in a server.

I just found this threat so I'd like to weigh in.

First: I find Amazing Charts not supporting Windows Server 2019 to be horrible at best. We are in the downswing of the year 2020. Was released October 2, 2018. That AC has yet to test their product on the latest OS with that OS having been out for almost two years to pathetic. It increases the cost to the client to purchase a new 2019 server license to only exercise downgrade rights.

Second, Doc Wendell is correct about Essentials. Read more here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server-essentials/get-started/what-s-new-19

That being said, since Server 2019 Standard gives two VM licenses, one can be the AC server and the other can be the gateway server allowing remote desktop connectivity to the AC server or any other workstation/server on the network. Remote Desktop Services Gateway is simple to set up.

Marvelous typo about the situation, if that's what it was!

Nice to see you back, James.

AAhhhh!! I meant to say THREAD, but I'm not changing the typo. A vendor that provides a line-of-business application that fails to keep up with technology is a threat to business continuity. I've seen it first hand.

Server 2016 essentials here, works fine. No need to be on latest. I've always found Microsoft server "latest edition" often have a few bugs to work out.

2016 does take a long time to finish the monthly cr*pdate though so give those some time to complete.
