Hi everyone,

Which place of service are we supposed to use for Medicare Covid emergency virtual visits?

It seems like, if the visit is only being done virtually because the patient cannot come in due to Covid, we should use office 11 as place of service. 95 modifier. And traditional 99213.

Yet most of the private insurers, for the same situation, want us to use 02 telehealth for place of service.

Does this seem right?

Thanks.

"Building on prior action to expand reimbursement for telehealth services to Medicare beneficiaries, CMS will now allow for more than 80 additional services to be furnished via telehealth. When billing professional claims for all telehealth services with dates of services on or after March 1, 2020, and for the duration of the Public Health Emergency (PHE), bill with:

Place of Service (POS) equal to what it would have been had the service been furnished in-person
Modifier 95, indicating that the service rendered was actually performed via telehealth"

So yes, Gene... I think you have it right.

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. There seems to be lots of conflicting information, even reading the Medicare published material is quite confusing. Lots of contradictory information between the Medicare traditional telehealth services, versus those allowed under the coronavirus emergency.

The information you quoted appears to be definitive.

Thank you!

Gene
